BNP - Another test to stress over

The first BNP test I had was almost a year ago, and it was 331. After they got the water off, the next test two months later was 279. This past may I knew the valve was leaking more and the number jumped to the 800s. My first BNP post opp was three weeks ago, it was down to 175. They say...

Am I expecting too much? 7 weeks since surgery

At 24 year of age this is a lot to take in; that is when I was first diagnosed. In his minnd he probably thinks he is a freak, or falling apart. I remember looking at older people thinking I would never get there myself. Acceptance of this surgery comes with time, and as the body heals his...

When to schedule surgery. What are symptoms

If the Doc says you can hold off, I would do just that. You should still consider a second surgeon agrees. My Docs were pushing me to move forward for 6 months; finally I had to. If I could have waited for this I would have. http://news.wustl.edu/news/Pages/10711.aspx

Trying to learn "my place" in all of this

I am 45 years old, and got a mechanical valve. Wouldn't have it any other way. I would hate to think every time I work out I am cutting life of my valve. I agree with the person who said they don't want to do this again,,, I would not!!. With additional open heart surgery you keep increasing...

    ICD leads causing Triicuspid damage

I am slated to get an ICD next week, but am very concerned about how the leads run down through the tricuspid valve. As you can guess I a little protective over my remaining valves.:wink2: Has anyone here had or heard of tricuspid damage as a result of the leads. I know it can happen, but I...

    warfarin and side effectts

I found that I needed less Coumadin to get the same INR after putting 4 grams of fish oil in my diet. The fish oil is a natural blood thinner, so I would rather get to my target with something healthy, requiring less medicine. You may ask your wife’s Doc about Levesa, a prescription fish oil...

3 Days in Hospital with A-Fib

I thought I would never get rid of afib, and it did go away. Now all I have to do is get off the amioderone. I think the pure fish oil helped more than the drugs though. You may ask your doc about prescription fish oil.

Anyone here work as a Volunteer

I met with a gent who is a voluteer at Vanderbilt, visiting heart patients before and after surgery. He had a AVR, so he is able to relate to patients more than most of the medical staff. I am strongly considering doing the same. I think this would be rewarding; much like this site has been...

Doc says it's time for and ICD,,

I was hoping that after my MVR, my left ventricle would re-model and improve my EF over 35%. No such luck, I am still about 20 to 25%.:confused2: My LA did go back to normal size, but I think I will always have a bad LV. Considering I am only 3 months post opp, I feel great; only bothered by...

Prayers for our longtime member, Mindy..!!

Mindy, wish you the best. If you do have a transplant, here is something for you. My sister had a transplant 23 years ago, and she is strong as an ox. She is 9 years older than me, and has a much better heart. She has none of the worries most of us deal with. I know this is the surgery of...

I am having a-fib for the first time, back in the ER

A-fib is a setback for sure; it makes you feel vulnerable, and as if you are going in the wrong direction. My electrician came out with the big guns, which was amioderone. It did seem to work, but now I am afraid to get off of it. In a way I wish he would have tried some less toxic meds...
