Surgeon says he chooses whether Bovine or Porcine - Sound reasonable?

Sounds very reasonable to me. I have the stented porcine. Next months it will be three years. So far, it's doing great!!

    suspect pleurisy

John, I'm sorry, I read you're post wrong. You said right side. With pericarditus, the pain should be on the left. Yes, it could be fluid in the lung.

    suspect pleurisy

John, Of couse this is not an OFFICIAL diagnosis......BUT it sounds to me like you have Pericarditus. For me the ONLY thing that was effective was Prednisone. The cardio tried everything, but that's the only thing that works.

Sharp pain where I would imagine the ascending arch graft might be...?

Malibu, I myself have experienced jabbing pains, for along time! Most problems or discomfort I have had since surgery (2/08) continued for about 1 1/2yrs! Each time I went to the Cardio, they could not find ANYTHING WRONG. I've had echos, nuclear stress tests ect. I believe the nerve...

Which type of valve...tissue or mechanical for 56 yr old female

I was 56 when I had my AVR. It will be three years Feb. I chose tissue. For me, it was the best choice. It is different for each individual. So far, I've had no problems. My last echo was 3mos ago. My cardio said the echo was "perfect". I am aware that if I live long enough, I will...

    Something Strange

I say yes, you definitely SHOULD say something. That should not have happened. They really need to know, and it's my guess the surgeon, and staff would certainly WANT to know!

    still exhausted three weeks later?

You absolutely would still be feeling tired! Everyone is different, but believe me three weeks is not much time at all! Give youself a few months. Your body just went through a very major surgery. It takes awhile. Hang in there, and try and be patient. You will get there, I can promise you...

Wheelchair user - will I need help after surgery?

I would definitely ask about the minimally invasive procedure. I think you would be an excellent candidate. That really would be for your Dr's to decide though.
