Surgery Date is set, now it's decision time!

Lyn has a good point...a tie breaker and N Jean makes a valid point. At 47 my surgeon made the decision for me, saying "I don't think you'd want to go through this surgery again". I also thought/read that you could still be put on warfarin (blood thinner) after surgery for a period of time -...

Surgery - What Day of the Week is Best?

I was put on the "on call list" so I didn't have a choice of a day. But it was done on a Friday afternoon and after 7 years (almost) all is good, but then again so was my surgeon - even saw him during the weekend, and was released on Monday.

Question about INR changes when you skip a dose and get tested in different places

Everyone is different when ones skips/holds a dosage, if it were me I'd probably get the same result as you did Tony. It is very possible to get different readings from the lab and hospital......but it really shouldn't be no more than a .4 difference. The Canadian standard for INR lab testing...

Blacked out, hit my head and concussed...can't wait to get off Metoprolol/Coversyl

Don't want to sound insensitive Tony, but did your doctor(s) say it was okay to go to Hawaii? The reason I ask is b/c my doctors was against me going to Vancouver when I was 4 months out. Do hope you're taking care of yourself and hopefully very soon you can start being weaned off those heart...

    Perplexed on what to eat

I use to fret on what to eat and how much, now I don't care. I have salads maybe 3 x a week, I'll eat ice cream scoop green veggies when ever....I don't over indulged on greens but I still eat them Enjoy your food and love life as it should - don't let something called INR control your enjoyment...

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday . . . 1-31-2014

Thought I would toughen-up you guys in the U.S. Sorry, but I'm not calling the cold weather back. Even -22F is a tad too cold for me. Hey Wise, salt (table salt) also works, but it can cause damage to cement. Cat litter works cause it will stick to the ice and absorb the water once it starts...

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday . . . 1-31-2014

oh yes indeed. Chocolate chip cookies and pancakes are what we call (up here in the far North) Comfort food on cold wintery days. It's only -7F but with the wind it feels like -22F. Good day to have a pot of stew, another comfort food. Hey Wise, cat litter will work on those icy sidewalks Good...

    Lightheadedness When Standing

Had the same problem when I was on Metoprolol. I taught myself to take a deep breath 'in' before getting up from a sitting position and slowly exhaling on the way "up", then taking another breath "in" before I took my first step - it helped me, maybe this can help you too.

Very irritated skin - dressings allergy

Do have Gold Bond lotion in the UK or Aveno (sp) hand lotion? Aveno is made with oatmeal and is very good for soothing the skin. If all else fails, you may have to get a prescription for 1% of cortisone cream.

    Left Sided Tingling and Weakness

MPO, it sounds more like a pinch nerve....probably in the neck area. Try stretching out your neck, an ear to shoulder exercise - keep shoulder straight & square and slowly bring your right ear to the shoulder and at the same time stretch your left shoulder downward, then repeat to the other...

    Cardiologist Against INR Meters

I think monitoring your "k" intake is going to drive you crazy, it didn't work well for me. I bet after 6 months everything will work itself out, cause I too had a heck of a time trying to get my INR steady within the sweet spot. You may want to approach your Cardio or doctor again after a...

    warfarin and feeling the cold

Canadian winters indeed, now all you have to do is add a -43C windchill (that's what we're experiencing today), but it's only 28C at 2:00 in the afternoon. Don't have to tell me "that's cold", but it's the perfect temperature to throw boiling water outside and watch it disappear. lol

    Lancet colours

Hi UncleSteve and Welcome...... The yellow lancets you have should be a 21g/0.8mm. Looking at my box of lancets, there's a blue dot indicating the size 21g - in my case, on the box it's beside the reference # make sure your hands are clean and warm - warm water helps to soften the skin and I...

    CoaguChek XS newbie

I have to get my fingers to look like prunes before I poke. After I wash them in warm soapy water, I wrap my fingers in a damp paper towel for about 10 min. After you "poke" you can actually scrape your sample onto the test strip. I like using the side of the baby finger.....the skin isn't as...

How long does it take to come round from anaesthetic ?

What I've been told and what I remember: I was wheeled out of OR around 5:30 - 5:45pm. In ICU, I was told by my SO or I saw the clock (?) it was 11:30pm, but I was still very sedated and tried so hard to keep my eyes open, but just couldn't do it. I think it was around 8am when I was moved into...
