Alere -- New INR Results Phone App

I just received a new batch of test strips for my INratio machine from Alere. In the wellness brochure included with the shipment, was an article that says that you can now download an app to your iPhone, iPad or Android device called: Alere CoagClinic Self-Test Portal, where you can submit...

Its proved again that "God is with you always when required"

So glad to know that your surgery is behind you and you are on your way to recovery! And like you, I have always believed that the Lord is the force that has seen and gotten me through some of the roughest times in my life! In my opinion, doctors and surgeons will do everything they can to...

Female, 42, mother, AVR scheduled for 11/4 Seeking likewise for discussions/support

I think you have gotten a wealth of advice from all the previous posters! I would like to share something with you: When I had my 1st OHS, 39 years ago, (a double-mechanical valve implant), I was newly married. We married in Aug/1974, I endured a therapeutic abortion in Mar/1975 and had the...

Novartis - CHF Drug Shows Promise

Sorry that I am just now getting to read and respond to your post. First of all, I can relate to the sadness and frustration you must feel that you need valve replacement just 7 years out of the already traumatic enough experience of having an aneurysm repair. "Life just doesn't seem to be...

Novartis - CHF Drug Shows Promise

In answer to your question, Newbie Slo, and I will try to make a very long story as short as I can: I had 2 mechanical valves implanted in 1975. I had rheumatic fever when I was 21 yrs. old. My aortic and mitral valves were destroyed by the fever. These two valves were called "Cooley-Cutter...

Novartis - CHF Drug Shows Promise

Thank you for providing this other link, Anne! I am very excited by this new drug and can't wait to ask my cardiologist in October what he thinks of it. I've been on Ramipril for many years now, which is considered the "gold" standard in beta-blockers. There's always hope.....never give up!

Novartis - CHF Drug Shows Promise

I was just reading our local paper, and a headline caught my attention. The article reads in part: "A new study reports one of the biggest potential advances against heart failure in more than a decade --- a first-of-a-kind, experimental drug that lowered the chances of death or hospitalization...

Hello! AVR in 10 days for my 82 yo father at Cleveland Clinic

Make sure that your dad's doctor is aware that he will need in-home care once he is discharged. Doctors will refer nurses and/or other medical professionals to make home visits to patients that are elderly, live alone or whose spouse is not able to care for them such in your dad's case.

    POC not reading INRs correctly

Sorry about my post. Just realized after taking the time to re-read your posts, you don't have a home monitor so my advice wouldn't apply. Hope your issues get resolved soon!

    POC not reading INRs correctly

At one time I thought my POC (INRatio 2) was not giving me the right readings either. So I decided I'd use my husband as a guinea pig and tested him. The INR reading was 1.1 which is the normal range for someone NOT on anticoagulants. So, if you can find someone who wouldn't mind a little...

    Old member with some news

Wow, that is remarkable, Kevin! (If I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the same device doctors implanted in Dick Cheney which sustained him until he had his heart transplant.) I too have inquired about a heart transplant and was told I would NOT qualify as a candidate due to the damage...

May Be Sporting A New Gadget

Thanks, Tom! The doctors said the device they'd use on me could also be calibrated over the phone. That's wonderful being that I live in New Mexico and they would be in Houston, so that will work! Stay well! :)

May Be Sporting A New Gadget

Steve, I believe you hit the nail on the head when you say that they’re using the pacemaker as “insurance” in the event the A-fib gets worse, which more than likely, will! I think they feel implanting a Pacemaker is a ‘piece of cake’ compared to subjecting me to a 4th OHS to change out that...

May Be Sporting A New Gadget

I'm not really afraid of the possibility of needing a Pacemaker in the future....I just wish I knew more about what warrants one! I have an appointment with my PCP coming up prior to going to Houston so I might ask him what he thinks. I have a lot of faith in him because he prescribes all...
