Beta blockers that don't cause cold hands

Hi Gustaf- I'm on Metroplol (25 mg twice daily). I've always had great circulation and was always the warm one even in -20F...Post surgery my wife says my hands are always cold...Nothing esle (feet, etc) though? I'm a skier too. I'll keep watching the thread and ask my doc the next time I see...

    1st run post op

Thanks Sumo. One thing I forgot to mention is that I also noticed that I would get the chills and the hair on my arms would stand up when I paused to walk?!? I too am very determined. I was not a big runner prior to surgery, but now that's all I can think about. Thinking of doing some 5 K...

    1st run post op

OK, I ran for the first time in cardiac rehab yesterday, it was hell. I ran a 12-minute mile pace for about 5 minutes and was whipped. I ran out doors today with my fancy new GPS heart monitor. I ran/walked 2.18 miles in 32 min 15 sec. I found that I could only run about .25 miles before I...

Post-Surgical Question For Aneurysm Repair Folks

I'm 5 weeks post op today. I can not do any of the activities mentioned except walking. My recovery has been better than most and I expect to try some light jogging next week. I'm on a 10 lb restriction until 6.5.09, then 40 lbs, 80 lbs 7.5.09 and no restictions on 8.5.09. Come 6.5.09 I won't be...

I had an aortic valve, and the ascending and aorta arch replaced.

Hi and welcome Greg! I'm 37 and had the same surgery as you. It will be 5 weeks tomorrow. My recovery has been better than text book. Some minor hiccups along the way. Sorry your having challenges. I had bad chills in the hospital and my hands get cold real easy now...hoping things improve for you!

    Okay another Question: Comfort Level

You've received a lot of mixed messages here. I agree that you should be very concervative, if the cardio says you can run, I would walk (gentle pace). Always have your phone with you and if you don't already have one I would recomend buying a heart monitor and keep your bmp no more than 20-30...

What Are Mortality Rates for Valve-Sparing/Aneurysm Repair Surgeries

I would recomend you follow your cardio's advice on exercise. The better shape you in pre-surgery, the better you recover (in most cases), just don't over do it. Do you happen to have a heart monitor you can use for jogging/walking? My doc (post surgery) does not want me more than 30 bpm...

My 34 yr old cousin passed away

So sorry for your loss, especially as Tom noted on Memorial Day weekend, not that the timing would make it any easier. Healing thoughts going your family's way. As if you needed any more stress in your life. Hang in there!

    disability and loans

So sorry your in this situation. What kind of loans did you take out, stafford? Bank loan? Not sure if I can help here, but I have a few banking friends that might. What a crappy graduation present to look forward to, but try not to worry too much, there are always options. Hang in there.
