    Bicuspid Valve - Longevity

My life insurance premiums went down after my surgery. I am still a higher risk then your typical person (because I'm on warfarin for life), but because I already had my "high risk" surgery, my quotes on a new policy went down.

    Vicodan - How long?

If I recall correctly I was on the pain meds for almost 2 months and I gradually weaned myself off of it. Taking it, I will say made me feel like a different person, and I was able to do more during the day and sleep better at night. My shoulder was hurting me more so then my chest, and if not...

Anyone been penalized for taking FMLA for their Heart Surgery?

Without knowing the specifics of your commission structure, unless you have a contract that was signed off on by you and your employer, they can change the commission structure if they wish at any time. If you met the engineering deadlines that were given to you, then IMO you should be eligible...

How many of you chose your valve type based on what others on here went with?

I went with the carbomedics based on my surgeons vast experience with them and they have a great running track record. After we decided on that, I never looked back.

    Shaving

I've switched on and off for years between electric and disposable razors before my surgery. Just before my surgery, I got myself a new electric razor (that was the advice given to me since I would be on warfarin) but I still like using the disposable razors. I may get a nick her or there, but...

Switching warfarin pills for a few days?

Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't think it would make too much of a difference, but I figure I'd ask people who have done it before. @Pellicle- Yes, I home test once a week with an InRatio2.

Switching warfarin pills for a few days?

I normally use warfarin from Taro but my 3 month supply may not be here before I run out (there was a problem express scripts mailing these out on time), my cardiologist gave me a 2 week script to use just in case and when I got it filled out at CVS they gave me warfarin pills from Barr labs...

    Anticoagulation Experiences

Being on Warfarin hasn't been too bad for me. Since my operation March 2013, I've gashed open my finger while replacing a microwave (no stitches needed, just a pressure bandage), some misc. light bruises (luckily I don't really big or bad ones), and the occasional bloody nose from too much nose...

    INRatio2 results

My Inratio2 is usually 0.1 - 0.5 higher then a lab draw. My test is done in the parking lot of the lab a few minutes after they do their blood draw. As long as I home test above 3, I'm happy.

only allowed 12 wks for family medical leave

You should be up and running by 12 weeks. I was written out for 3 months by my surgeon and I was doing part-time work at 2 1/2 months. I am very fortunate that I have a great boss. For the first two months of my disability, he made up the shortfall between what my normal salary was and what I...

High Blood Pressure 3 months after AVR

My BP was always good before surgery and even immediately after surgery, but then about 2 /12 - 3 months after surgery it went up. My cardiologist put me on 10 mg of Lisinopril and that helped, but I eventually got sick and tired of the "Lisinopril cough" after about 6 mionths and he took me...

    Bloodshot Eyes

Just wondering if anyone has had issues with getting bloodshot eyes while on Warfarin. I normally have slightly blood shot eyes (due to allergies, not sleeping enough, etc.), but today I noticed they seemed a little more so. My INR was 2.5 yesterday, so I'm at the low end of my range. Not...

    Strep Throat

INR from the lab draw yesterday was 2.9 so I feel a lot better now that I'm back in range. Re-test on Tuesday.

    Strep Throat

Home tested this morning and I was at 2.5 so I feel a little better with that number. I'll be happy when its in the 3's again. My increased doseage is tonight and I'll cut back a little on the K today again.

    Strep Throat

Heh, actually the last time I was on amoxicillin. For a few days I dropped 0.5 points in 3 days. Who knows. I'm going to self test tomorrow and see where I'm at. Hopefully it's higher. If its the same or lower, I don't know what to do.

    Strep Throat

We ate out a few times since my last test so I had to guess on a few things but nothing else really changed. I did take some Coricidn nitetime cold syrup for a few days, but that should have been ok. My previous test was a 2.9 home test (checked against a 2.4 lab test). Cardiologist office...
