    Strep Throat

Bah, home tested this morning with a 2.1 (which means a lab draw could have been as low as 1.6. A little concerned, but I'll let my cardio know what's going on and I'm sure I'll be upping my meds tonight. Being this low doesn't make comfortable at all.

    Strep Throat

Pellicle, I usually go to the lab once a month and have a blood draw, I then walk to the parking lot and use my home testing machine. I then compare the results to see how the InRatio2 compares to the lab and it's usually 0.2 - 0.5 points higher then the lab.

    Strep Throat

I home test weekly, but I also have a script for lab testing I can always use if I don't want to blow through too many strips in a short period. Needle sticks don't bother me luckily.

    Strep Throat

Was diagnosed with strep this morning after having a sore throat since Thursday. I'm on amoxicillin for 10 days now. Can't wait to see what this does to my INR.

    Oops - missed dose

If you're worried about not getting home because of some type of emergency, you could always carry a small pill box in your pocket. I have a plastic one that's about 1.5" X 1.5". Even if we're just going to the in-laws for the day (they live one state over), I always take my weekly pill box...

Dental extraction with INR of 4.7

Around Chirstmas last year, I was installling a new microwave and my hand slipped while installing the new mounting bracket. I wound up cutting an approx. 1/4" circle of skin from my knuckle. It didn't cut completely off, so I flipped the skin back on the finger, my wife helped me clean it, we...

    Cold due to Warfarin?

It's probably a side effect from the major surgery and your body is "re-booting" . I was never one to get cold, but after my BAV, I would get shivers all the time unless I stayed still and had blankets or a bathrobe on me. I thought it was maybe the Coumadin or something else, but my...

Heart of the Sunrise- AVR in the Early Spring

Use your family for support in the upcoming days. I relyed heavily on my wife (her name is Karen as well). We talked about what I was afraid of going into this, and also what she was afraid of. It helped take the edge off of things for both of us and made the time pass alittle easier. Also...

Out of the mouth of babes.

So my 5 year old asks me; "daddy, because of what the doctors did to fix your boo-boo, does that make you a cyborg? (he knows what a cyborg is from watching Teen Titans on tv) Are you a superhero now?!?" Hopefully he doesn't expect me to start flying him places.

A Brief Intro - Surgery Monday, March 11

Welcome Bracken! Best of luck with your surgery. Like Dick said, it's probably a good thing surgery will happen quick so that you think about it too much and get in a funk over it. See you on the other side soon!

    Valve Question

I had my surgery last year at age 41 and went back and forth between mechanical and tissue. I finally decided on mechanical. Being on coumadin can at times be a drag, but I would rather not potentially have 2 more operations (assuming the tissue valves would last 15 years). Keep in mind, that...
