    Mechanical vs tissue

Sounds like you're doing great, Gil. I came home 5 days ago, and I must say (knocking on wood) that each day is an improvement over the one before. I am managing the steps in our split level, and get out for a couple slow, short walks each day. I still feel like my chest is made of eggshell and...

    Home today from hospital

Hi all, Just a quick note to say I came home today. Four days in cardiac ICU, then the step-down unit. Recovery was mostly uneventful to date, although I feel like I've been hit by a bus. I'll write more when I have some energy... Carol

    New in ChicagoLand Surgery 10/22

Hi Dion, I can relate to the broadsided-by-a-bus feeling. In August, my GP thought my heart murmur sounded "busy", so I went for an echo which revealed critical aortic valve stenosis. At 57, I thought the out of breath moments, feeling the heat, etc. were simply age related issues. Never in my...

    Dental clearance

Went for a dental clearance yesterday, prior to surgery, and x-rays found an infection under a crown! Doc cleared away a spot later in the day, and did an extraction (called 3 oral surgeons who couldn't squeeze me in). Yikes! I hope there are no more surprises before the 11th....

    Mechanical vs tissue

Well, we met with my surgeon yesterday and I'm scheduled for surgery on Oct. 11th! My valve is only 0.6 and a peak gradient of 94, so he thinks sooner rather than later is indicated. Personally, I'm glad to have a date and stop having my imagination go crazy. Interestingly, he would NOT state a...
