    Progress continues. . .

Steve, Good news on all fronts. My B/P was great at my 3 week checkup but was a bit high at my 6 week checkup. The doc said that this is common and didn't increase my meds, just keep an eye on it and if it didn't come down on it's own or got worse to contact him. It has come back down to ~...

    Posture after OHS

I always had a tendency to hunch over for years before my surgery. I think it had to do with my heart condition but it could have just been bad posture. I am an avid golfer and it might have become a habit from carrying a golf bag on my shoulder for 30 years. I still hunch over, especially when...

    Sternum Pain

After my first surgery I started having unusual sternum pain after 6 weeks. After about 3 months of this constant pain they did a MRI on me and could find nothing wrong, but the pain continued. Seven months after surgery I had my sternum wires removed. After the surgery my surgeon said he still...

Endocarditis, caused second OHS in three years, age 64

I am not disputing any of the information here and I am only going by memory (I had endocarditis too) is that they prefer to try and get the endocarditis under control before operating. The vegetations on the valve are the main worry here because if any break off there is a high risk of stroke...

Any advice? I'm going down with a cold post op.

    What he said.

    Newbie introduction & question

BTW when I first talked with my surgeon he brought up the option of taking an ace inhibitor for 6 months and then re-evaluating my condition. But he also said that I will be having this surgery, it's just a matter of whether we do it now or a few years from now. I was already having symptoms so...

    Newbie introduction & question

Daniel, Just so you know Amlodipine (Norvasc) is a calium channel blocker and not an ace inhibitor. I haven't been on Lisinopril but I have been on Enalapril before (10mg twice daily pre-op) as well as Metoprolol (on 50mg twice daily now) and Diltiazem (360mg CD daily for a short period of time...

    Ablation scheduled

Hi Wanda, I left you a quick message on another thread but I am glad everything went well with your ablation. It sure is a relief when your body doesn't feel like you are running a marathon 24/7 isn't it? ;)

    Question for you...

IMO a heart rate in the mid 40's is too low. With 60-100 being the normal range your heart rate was ~15 bpm below normal. If you had a resting heart rate of 115 (~15 bpm above normal) you probably wouldn't feel too good either. I think they did the right thing by lowering your Metoprolol and if...

5 weeks post op and now I have bronchitis!

Carol, I had something similar happen shortly after 3 weeks post-op with the same symptoms, except my cough was dry and I couldn't bring anything up. I went to the regular doc and she said I had asthma and put me on an albuterol nebulizer. It didn't do anything so I called my cardiologist and...

Why do you Think there is So Much Emotion?

What is the name of your surgeon because I want him next time. ;) I felt like I was run over by a truck after both of my surgeries, but I have to admit by the time I got my chest tubes out both times (became untethered) besides the sternum I felt ok (still not good though lol). BTW how did you...

    Ross Procedure Complication?

As someone who had a Ross Procedure it was explained to me that pulmonary stenosis was a possible complication of the homograft pulmonary valve. They also explained that this condition did not always require surgery, it was basically a symptom specific call as to whether or not to replace it...

How Bad is aortic root dilation of 4.4 CM ? And questions I should ask.

booklover, There are two different places that they generally measure the aortic root...at the annulus and at the proximal ascending aorta. My cardiologists always gave me both numbers as it was dilating and at surgery my numbers measured by CT scan just before my surgery were 5.4cm and 5.8cm...

Ten weeks post-op ... bit miserable, bit sorry for myself ...

Allison, We had our surgery on the same day and I have been going threw a bit of a down period. I won't list all of the reasons but I think most of has to do with the fact that I have been sick for so long that after surgery I thought I would be feeling better than I do now. My sternum is still...

    Ecg opinion

Reading my ECG's is one thing I have never been good at so I don't try. I can tell you that during my time at this site "complete right bundle or left bundle branch block" is the only issue I have heard people say their cardiologist was concerned about or needed treatment. As far as I know I...

How is your mood after OHS , was anxiety a problem before OHS

Wanda, There is a similar thread about the emotional side of OHS so I am copying and pasting it (too lazy to think of something new...lol). I think I went through all the stages of grief before my first OHS. As for the 2nd one, I had to fight so hard to get financial assistance that once I got...

Why do you Think there is So Much Emotion?

I think I went through all the stages of grief before my first OHS. As for the 2nd one, I had to fight so hard to get financial assistance that once I got it I actually felt a sense of relief. I do have to admit that once I got the assistance I thought to myself...uh oh now I have to go through...

    Medical Marijuana

I would say the only way to find out if it helps is to try it assuming medical marijuana is legal in your state and your doctor is willing to prescribe it. I quit smoking it a long time ago because it started to give me anxiety. But I do have anxiety issues unrelated to my other physical issues...

    Ablation scheduled

I also want to apologize to Wanda as this is probably the last thing you need to read right before you go in for your ablation. Obviously I think you know where I stand and that I think you are doing the right thing, and I think you are going to instantly feel so much better when they finish...

    Ablation scheduled

I just wanted to apologize to Herb in responding to him in the way I did. While we seem to have a difference of opinion concerning this matter I should have kept the debate more civil.
