    Kidney Stones & Coumadin!

Hang on a minute with those holistic treatments, check it isn't something which might mess with your INR? You really need to know the type of stone you have, calcium based stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones, or cystine stones. They are caused by different things so you can adjust your...

    Kidney Stones & Coumadin!

There are a number of different stones so you need to know the sort you have, water filtering isn't going to stop some types of stone. As I said, mine are uric acid and filtering water won't stop those forming.# I only drink Brita filtered water and have grown new ones.

Items to take to the hospital.

I would add that it will also depend on where you are. For instance in the UK you will want your own clothes, certainly night clothes, slipper, dressing gown even if no 'day clothes'. I wore my normal day clothes after the few few days changing back into a nightie just to sleep.

    Kidney Stones & Coumadin!

OHS seems to make mine disappear, and my stones were large uric acid ones. Before surgery I had them, three weeks later when I was scanned they had gone. :)

Let's hear it for the oral surgeon!!

I will also be having a wisdom tooth out shortly and the dental surgeon says as far as he is concerned he will be able to take it out with me fully anticoagulated (3.0 to 4.0) and pack it then stitch it. He has, however, written to my cardiologist to see if he has any preferences as to what...

    Kidney Stones & Coumadin!

I have had lithotripsy, it gave me endocarditis after my second of three treatments. I bled from that session for several days and was NOT on warfarin at the time. The lithotripsy was the cause of all my problems. I have another kidney stone now, I am seeing my cardiologist next month and...

    Nervous wreck...

I am not a heart mother but can remember the terrible anxiety I had when my children had health problems, I still do go through hell and back and they are both adults now. By all means seek help to get through this, I know that I would.

How many of you were smokers?

I smoked until March 2000, the day I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. I started smoking when I was nineteen and I am 61 now so smoked for a good number of years.

    Confirming my diagnosis.....

Welcome. If two doctors have diagnosed the same thing and both recommend replacement then it is confirmed already. Even if you think you are not experiencing any symptoms the problem is still there. Delay can only make matters worse and probably cause permanent damage to your heart, or worse.

dual heart valve replacement (aortic, tricuspid) 22years ago

Infection? Sounds as if you are yet another of us who has had endocarditis. :) No one told me that I now have a life expectancy which is significantly less than it was previous to being ill, just told it might be slightly reduced. Twenty-two years is a short time compared to some members...

Got surgery packet from Cleveland Clinic and now the Swine Flu

Poor you, France isn't on the list of high risk areas according to our MOH... "Until schools break on 17 July 2009, the Public Health Department is advising any children who have returned from Mexico, the USA, London, the Midlands and Greater Glasgow to stay off school for 48 hours after their...

Low INR, in the hospital, warning: girl stuff

:D No, no fun at all. :) After I had my first child I tried an IUD, in fact I tried three! Within hours of them being fitted I had partially expelled them and a nasty sharp piece was sitting waiting for a 'visitor' - had that happened 'the visitor' would have been lacerated! Now you...

Low INR, in the hospital, warning: girl stuff

Ladies, ladies, you could always use the best method of birth control available with no risk of bleeding, thrombosis etc - ABSTINENCE! Come to think of it, you might suffer severe bruising when the old man gets physical when frustrated! :D As you were, back to BC. :):)

    Pain relief question

I couldn't tolerate ibuprofen (Advil) even before surgery, it immediately caused problems with my stomach and I was told never to take it again, by my doctor.

    Activities in Hospital after surgery

It certainly wasn't laying about in bed. Four years ago for me and after a few days I was walking up and down the corridor, then soon having to tackle stairs at least four times each day. I used to take myself off to the hospital gardens and smell the flowers. I also liked to sit in the lobby...

    Ouch, INR under my range

I keep a notebook in with my pills and mark the day and the dosage taken, it was just that I was away and my pills were not in the kitchen where I prepare my food so I forgot. I didn't realise until I was due to take my next dose, so a full 24 hours later. 5.75mg will not be hard to take, I...

    Ouch, INR under my range

I had my INR tested yesterday and when my book arrived in the post today, it showed that my INR was 2.5 and with a range of 3.0 to 4.0 that is not good. I have been taking 5.5mg per day but on Monday I forgot to take it - I told the phlebotomist and it was noted on my test slip. The...
