Worried about time left inbetween Tests!

Although not the UK per se our medical staff is mostly trained there and have similar things in place. The longest I have gone is a couple of months, they do permit some people to go as long as three months, my brother-in-law is in the UK and goes three months. The INR has to be rock steady...

    Coumadin and Propecia ???

I can't help about the drugs but I can say that I, and the women that I know, really don't care a fig as to whether a man is losing or has lost their hair, the person beneath the skin is what matters so much more than a physical appearance. If I were a man I really wouldn't want to take a drug...

    Traveling Alone for Surgery

I live alone with no family living in the same island as me, my family are in the UK which is where I had to fly on my own in order to have my surgery. A friend dropped me at the airport here and the airline took me in a wheelchair from check -in to the aircraft. In London I was met from the...

    echo-yearly?

I have one yearly and an ECG at the same time, both shortly before my regular visit to my cardiologist. He arranged it and since we don't pay here when you are a public patient it isn't a case of just wanting to collect a fee.

    Do you all ever wonder................

My maternal grandfather died of valvular disease, he was about sixty I think. My own father died of coronary heart disease when he was fifty-one. The use of warfarin back then wasn't as understood as it is today (oh stop laughing), he was given warfarin for a while and his blood was only...

    Does it make a difference?

If you live in the UK (or here) doctors have to prescribe by the generic name of the drug and if the generic versions of the drugs are in stock the pharmacist has to dispense them as far as I know, rather than branded drugs. I have been on generic warfarin since my OHS and it is just fine, the...

    antibiotics before dental work

All the dentists here in Jersey are private unlike the UK where you can get an NHS one if you are lucky and my dentist got cold feet when I needed a scale and polish so referred me to the hospital dental department. I saw the consultant there and he decided to liaise with the consultant...

    antibiotics before dental work

I think that you will find that it was PACE who decided to stop recommending antibiotics. There isn't a heart council, perhaps you are thinking of the British Heart Foundation. My cardiologist is of the opinion that if a high risk patient such as myself makes an informed decision to take...

Another newbie checking in and TEE ??

I had two TEEs (or TOE as we say in the UK), the first when I was being treated for endocarditis and the second when I was on the operating table when I was asleep so they could see whether it was one or two valves they were replacing, they decided after seeing the results of the TOE to do the...

    Patient registry at valve manufacturers

Don't be concerned about your cardiologist not asking about the cad, none of mine did

    Patient registry at valve manufacturers

I was given a card for each of my ATS valves with details of the size and model plus a serial number. It was my understanding that the valve manufacturers do keep records of who has which valve.

Life Expectancy with a Mechanical Valve

When I was attempting to sue the person who almost certainly caused my endocarditis a report from an expert cardiologist said that I might have a 'slightly reduced' life expectancy. Considering I wasn't expected to survive the surgery I am quite happy with that, I would have been happier if I...

    stroke after surgery

3.3 is near the bottom of my range, it is certainly not 'high'.

Cold Feet and other symptoms . . .

I don't like most vegetables but this never stopped me cooking them for my ex-husband.

    cannot believe this :(

Which hospital is she going to have the surgery? You said that you had her moved. Since it is elective surgery if it isn't done by about 16th then I would think it might be after Christmas, unless things have changed they tend to like to keep as few patients as possible over Christmas so...

    Gender and valve choice

I live on a small island that has a cardiologist but no 'proper' cardiac surgery, only pacemakers and defibulators and similar devices, for anything else we are flown to the UK. Whilst being treated for endocarditis my heart murmurs became worse so I was flown to England and taken to St...

How long after you were told you needed a valve?

Three months from being diagnosed. At first they thought they would do it as an emergency when I had endocarditis but then wanted to try to clear the infection before surgery. Once cleared it was 'see how it goes' then I had to have an echo and was told surgery needed to be within the next...
