    Tooth extraction....

I had a molar out a few months ago, my INR was checked in the morning, extraction in the afternoon and my INR was 3.4. There was no bleeding, the dentist packed and stitched the gum. He said there was no need to come off warfarin or even to reduce it, he did give me antibiotic cover. My...

Apparently he is in hospital and will remain there until it is sorted, I will keep an eye open for updates. He is being treated at the largest cardiothorasic hospital in the UK.

    Missing valve?

Someone on another forum site I visit, not health related, asked for people to think of her d-in-l's brother who is in his early forties, they thought he had a heart attack but then discovered that he was born with only three heart valves and no one knew until now. Has anyone ever heard of such...

    Airport X-ray

I go through the scanner with my two valves, sometimes I set off the alarm but mostly not. There ought not be any reason NOT to go through the scanner, it isn't am electronic device like a pacemaker.

    The man is a sadist!

That was very funny, thank you. It is the gym again in the morning but with a different trainer, a woman, she might let me take it easy with just cycling, walking, rowing and the arm thing. :)

    The man is a sadist!

The form I have from the person assessing me prior to me commencing with an exercise routine has marked my HR as resting 89, maximum to go to 130. The monitor on the cross trainer showed me going to 150 but when I go on the treadmill or cycle it stays under 120, it is my legs which give up on me.

    The man is a sadist!

I have been going to the gym twice a week recently, prescribed by my GP, yes he had to write a prescription for it. I did it after my cardiac rehab but then it was three times a week and my sheet said no weights etc. After a while I stopped going then my cardiologist and GP wanted me to do more...

    Fingernail changes??

I hadn't heard the term Beau's Lines before but realise this is probably what I had due to my endocarditis etc, my nails all had a depression across them which eventually grew out. I realised it was to do with my illness, just not what it was called. I have vertical ridges and grooves but I...

50th Anniversary of Heart Valve Surgery

It should be, but regrettably not many people will know that it is the anniversary today.

    Blood thinners

I saw my GP the other day for my regular three monthly check and he mentioned that there might be the chance of changing to that new drug at some time in the future, although at the moment it is very expensive, so I said that warfarin doesn't worry me and told him about this website and how so...

    Endocarditis and Mitral Valve Replacement

My endocarditis was diagnosed a few days after I had a stroke, I had been unwell a few months before the stroke but other than to have an injection to stop me vomiting when I was first ill I didn't see a doctor until the stroke. I had both mitral and aortic valves replaced after my infection...

*Thank you* ALL for your good wishes...........

Taking out private insurance now probably wouldn't help, they won't normally cover pre-existing conditions.

    Wisdom Teeth

I had a molar out several weeks ago and my INR was 3.3 at the time, I didn't stop my warfarin. There was no bleeding, the socket was packed and then the gum stitched. Don't forget your antibiotics.

    length of mechanical valve

If this man was 67 then it is slightly surprising that they didn't use a tissue valve. When discussing with my surgeon whether to have tissue or mechanical I opted for mechanical as I was 57 and there would be less chance of requiring further surgery when I was in my 70s.

    Is this unheard of?

Right, that makes sense then. We have .5, 1, 3, 5 at least those are what I have, I don't know if we can get higher than 5 or smaller than .5.

    Is this unheard of?

I used to take 5 one day then 6 the next as my dosage was supposed to be 5.5mg, I got fed up with that and got my doctor to prescribe some .5 so I take 5.5 every day, much easier.
