    Still waiting

Not yet, pellicle. I called today and asked how that was going. The normal nurse who was working on it was gone for the day. They will call me back tomorrow and let me know what is going on.

    Still waiting

Called the nurse today to ask to increase Lasix and/or get on oxygen at night. When she called back, she increased my Lasix to 80mg a day, 20mg Potassium, and said they will schedule surgery next week for January. Hope they follow through. Excited to be on more Lasix in hopes that I will have...

    Still waiting

Thank you all. I really thought we would be done with all this by now. The last time I had this done was in 1993. I was 13 and my parents had to handle this end of it. Something to be said about the innocence of being a child :) Dornole: I doctor at Children's Hospital in Omaha, NE, but will...

    Still waiting

I'm definitely thinking about Mayo. Monday I plan to call the Omaha hospital I am using and ask them to increase my diuretics, and ask about getting on oxygen tonight. That will help, and maybe give them the hint that they should act fast.

Couldn't sleep last night. Got up at 2am and took a third Lasix. I did my research first. that put me to 60mg for the day. Woke up this morning 2 lbs lighter. Planning to add the extra pill each day this weekend and then call the hospital Monday in hopes to get something done. I can breathe a...

    Still waiting

I called that one Friday to get a referral and appointment to Mayo. My doctor never called me back with an appointment. I think I will call him tomorrow to make an appointment to just talk through things and options. He is just a family doctor, but he will listen to me. Maybe we can still get me...

    Still waiting

really starting to lose faith in this hospital. We still don't have a surgery date. I met with the surgeon November 9th. He said he could do it the last week in November or the 1st or 2 nd week in December. Now they are saying January or February? They haven't physically seen me in over a month...

Calcification of a St. judes mechanical mitral valve?

Thanks agian. I've waited long enough. Mainly because of the inexperienced Doctor. I'll have surgery in 2 to 3 weeks. They'll do the Maze Procedure when they replace the valve, which will be great for me. And, they will put a pacemaker in if they damage the conduction system while cutting...

Calcification of a St. judes mechanical mitral valve?

Looking over my notes from the surgeons phone call: it looks like he said the scar tissue on the valve will be white and calcified because it's so old. Maybe he is not using the word calcification for it's correct meaning. I believe he is just using it to mean "hard". He said scar tissue will...

Calcification of a St. judes mechanical mitral valve?

Pellicle, I haven't gotten the call with the appointment yet. It's all hurry up and wait..haha

Calcification of a St. judes mechanical mitral valve?

My gradient has been high for at least 11 years. 2006 is the oldest echo I received a copy of. It was probably high before that. Since I've had a Mechanical valve since the age of 2, the surgeon thinks my heart has learned to compensate. A few years ago when I mentioned my symptoms, the Dr. said...

Calcification of a St. judes mechanical mitral valve?

Pellicle and I have been discussing this. He agrees with you. The surgeon originally said he expects to find tissue growing on the edges of the valve and into the inside when he removes it. Yesterday, on the phone, we spoke about how he thinks surgery is my only option. He said there is...

Calcification of a St. judes mechanical mitral valve?

The surgery should be in 2 to 3 weeks. The surgeon predicts calcification on my 24 year old St. Judes mechanical mitral valve. Does anyone have similar stories of old mechanical valves becoming calcified? Someone on here said they have never heard of calcification on a St. Judes mechanical. I...

    3rd Valve Replacement stories please

Thanks agian. There's an excellent doctor at the same place who was there for my first MVR in 1982. He wrote articles about my case in medical journals. He's a very intelligent man. Fingers crossed that I can get him to be my doctor. That would be amazing. I may call and ask today or later this...

    3rd Valve Replacement stories please

Agian, my iPad was messing up and not letting me type anymore. I don't have a great feeling about my cardiologist. I am now in congestive heart failure. I have fluid in every part of my body. My cardio blew me off for a year. I had to call a lady that was my nurse for 33 years, until they...

    3rd Valve Replacement stories please

Agian, thanks. My surgeon says he expects to find tissue growing on the valve when he takes it out. He has explained how risky it is and how I may end up with a pacemaker if they cut into the conduction system while cutting through scar tissue. He said if he did 10 surgeries like mine, 4 to 6...

    My journey with avr

Hdogmd32, welcome to the forum. My valve will be 24 years old next month. I'll be 38 in 3 months. For some reason my valve is not keeping up at the moment. Looking into a third mitral valve replacement in the near future. My valve was replaced in 1982 at 2 years old, then again in 1993 at 13...

    Weird things after surgery! Help!

How old are you now? my second OHS was when I was 13, so I don't remember any of these symptoms either. I hope you get some relief from these symptoms soon and start feeling normal again. Can I ask what you had done in this surgery and if the doctors were concerned with risks of a third OHS? I...

    3rd Valve Replacement stories please

Completely understand that. My brain surgery was an elective surgery to remove scar tissue to try to stop having seizures. The day of my surgery, I was bumped back because of an emergency case. I was definitely much better off than many. Thankfully my surgery worked. 15 years seizure-free here...

    Mechanical valve scar tissue

NewValveNY, what is their plan of action with you? Are they planning to replace your valve in 6 months? I have not been impressed with my doctor in quite some time. I have had two TIAs (self diagnosed). I was driving during both of them and far from any hospital, so they could not assess me at...
