Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

Considering that mine is a mere 7 months old, and I was 67 at the time of repair, I find that quite encouraging!!! The bigger question now, for me, is whether the warranty will outlive the car! ;-)

    Aortic Aneurysms

Hi JM, not sure what you mean by "stars." The only thing they said is that the valve could last anywhere from 8-15 years, but I think we all know the reality of that - could go longer or shorter. I've read studies on life expectancy and the studies show it'll be a normal life – not that anybody...

    Aortic Aneurysms

Six months ago I had my thought-to-be BAV (turned out to be unicuspid) valve, root, and lower AA replaced(via a bio-Bentall procedure) at the Cleveland Clinic. I also had CABGx1. I asked my surgeon, Lars Svensson, if it could be done minimally. He said it could but he had far better and more...

    Post op day 13

Hey, Cactus, glad you're doing well. Wish I had seen your post earlier. When I was at CC I also had horrible back pain. It was considered very normal there. I craved a massage or something to stop it, and finally my surgeon's holistic nurse did reflexology that did the trick. (As I may have said...

    Edwards Resilia Inspiris Aortic Valve

Actually, he was very specific on size and if you met him you would realize he doesn't mess around or b.s. - no need to. He's extraordinarily solid and serious. I think we all know that we won't even know if I can have a TAVR done until the time comes.

    Edwards Resilia Inspiris Aortic Valve

I think it was age. I did a good deal of research and it seemed that they were starting to skew it toward younger patients. But it also might have been the type of procedure I had rather than JUST a valve. Whatever Dr. S says, I do. He is not one to question. (And by that I mean when it comes to...

    Well It's Time

Saved me. The holistic nurse on my surgeon's team did Reiki to calm my nerves when I was concerned about the tube removal (turned out not to be bad, at all); but the real life saver was the reflexology she did a few days in when my back was really killing me. I was dubious. Made all the difference!

    Edwards Resilia Inspiris Aortic Valve

For my surgery nearly 5 months ago I received the CE Perimount 2700. The interesting part - my surgeon was Lars Svensson at the CC, whom I believe was leading the trials for the Resillia (see the original poster.) I was 67 (now 68) when it was replaced. I specifically asked about the Resillia...

    Well It's Time

Cactus, I had my work done at CC in March. Excellent experience. ICU staff rocked. Did not like the first nurse in step-down (zero energy/personality, which is a let down after there energy of the ICU team) and let our surgeon's nurse practitioner know. Presto - new and fantastic nurse. Not sure...

    LDL

My cholesterol seemed in control with statins. The small LDL, however, had always been somewhat of a problem. The crazy thing is that I ate REALLY well - in general, avoided the bad stuff. Exercised. Etc, etc. When I did my pre-surgery stress test I ace'd it, but it's only about 80% correct...

16 Days Out And Getting Scared...

Foxtail - You'll be fine. Sense of humor really helps. And remember, given your size - the beds have extenders (not sure that extend THAT much) but the footboards do extend! Superman: Even with the softeners, etc, I think "being backed up" is a thing. And not just b/c of the pain meds, but...

16 Days Out And Getting Scared...

They will try to get you out of bed ASAP. For me, if I recall correctly - and I was sufficiently drugged so some of this remains foggy – it was the morning of Day 2. Day 1 was surgery, recovery. The goal was to get me to the chair. I thought I would flex my core and bounce up; fat chance! With...

    Knocking sensation on sternum

Hi Seastreet. I'm a little over 4 months out after bioprosthetic (bovine - Edwards Perimount 2700) aortic valve/root (Bentall procedure), ascending aorta plus – as a bonus – CABGx1. I noticed the thumping immediately in the ICU. They said it was common. To eliminate it, especially when lying...

16 Days Out And Getting Scared...

One reality check post-surgery on food... A lot of people report their taste/smell is off. For me it was smell - everything smelled horribly. I think my smell was heightened for a week or two. Even the alcohol they used to wipe down things - or the hand sanitizer. Yikes! Plus I was on a very...

16 Days Out And Getting Scared...

Hi Foxtail, I'm 68 and had a full sternotomy for my aortic valve repair 4 months ago. I'm back to 100% (was at 3 months). I think what Karen said about "no picnic" for the first 24 hours and "exponentially better" after the first day or so is on target. I was in pretty good physical shape going...

Just a simple 1 year now

Tom, thanks for the info. Sounds about right? Did you have a unicuspid? What I am noticing is that my BP seems much easier to control w/the new valve, though worried I'll jinx it by just saying it.
