Traveling to a different time zone, when to take warfarin

I will be traveling next month to Europe which is 5 hours ahead. I currently take my warfarin at 6:30 PM. What do you all do when you travel to a different time zone? I will ask my cardiologist at my appointment this week but wanted to ask here as well. Thanks in advance.

    26 & awaiting mechanical valve

Welcome to the forum. As I was looking at my second OHS last year, I was hoping for a TAVR. One because I was afraid of warfarin and two because it would be less invasive. When I met my surgeon he explained that a mechanical valve was the best choice at my age and would be most likely the last...

INR of 1.0 with mechanical valve

I was a 2.1 on the day I was discharged but dropped quickly upon returning home and eating what was normal for me.

Correlation between PT and INR, lab vs home

Thank you for your reply. Back in December when I was worried about my technique, I compared my at home with the lab, having the lab draw within an hour and not eating anything in between. There was a .2 difference with the lab being higher. I didn't think that was too bad. I checked again in...

Correlation between PT and INR, lab vs home

I did read the manual when I got the .5 discrepancy which is why I questioned the company about the control strips. I did find this on their website : Controls are run on every meter prior to the shipment from the factory. Controls are a regulatory requirement for professional offices (not...

Correlation between PT and INR, lab vs home

That is good information for me to have. I have to have a blood draw next week before my appointment with my cardiologist so I will have them do INR while I am there and will test at home same day. The cardiologist talked to the company when I had the .5 discrepancy and they said in order to...

Correlation between PT and INR, lab vs home

I did ask someone at the company that provided me with the machine and he said this calibration was done before I got the machine in November. I am going to start recording the PT in my book along with the INR and see what it looks like.

Correlation between PT and INR, lab vs home

Previously I shared that my at home CoagSense showed an INR of 2.0 and at the lab my INR was a 2.5. I'm not concerned because the lab number is higher and both numbers are in range. Today when testing at home my INR was 1.8. It was lower than I expected but what caught my eye was that the PT in...

INR of 1.0 with mechanical valve

Welcome to the forum. You will get support and a lot of useful information here. I am just one year post surgery. I also had my INR drop from 2.1 at discharge to a 1.4 four days later. I continued to drop for the first month post op (going as low as 1.1) even though the cardiologist was...

    Celebrating my one-year anniversary.

One year ago today (3/5/2021) I had OHS to repair an aortic aneurysm, repair my innominate artery and replace my aortic valve with a mechanical valve. This year has had it's ups and downs but I am feeling great. I am glad to have this surgery (which l knew was eventually going to happen) behind...

Looking for a community of fellow artificial valve folks

Welcome Zoemeigs. I was so happy to find this forum. I wish I had found it before surgery. I had a friend who had a TAVR for her BAV months before I had OHS for my BAV but before joining this forum there was no one I knew with a mechanical valve. That felt pretty lonely. I also felt that I...

Things are definitely different here. I only saw my surgeon once after my surgery in 1978. It was about 9 years later and I was having discomfort from one of the wires. Even so, I was thankful to have him as my surgeon. He was a very prominent cardiac surgeon who operated on many famous people...

My pediatric cardiologist gave me the boot when I graduated from college. It was nice of him to stick with me that long. In my 20's and 30's I saw a cardiologist every 2-4 years which was when I was thinking I was "cured". It wasn't until 2009 that they said I had mild aortic stenosis and I...

How did you discover your valve issue?

I was 2 when they discovered I had a profound heart murmur. I was followed yearly by a cardiologist. I had my first surgery at 14. I will be celebrating the one-year anniversary of my second surgery next week.

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I was also surprised to have four chest tubes. I only had two with my first OHS. I remembered it being excruciating the first time. This time they told me to hum which was weird. While it did hurt some I was so tired of lugging that around for 5 days I was happy to have them out

"pellicle, post: 914392, member: 12469"] man, you got good service outta that valvuloplasty!! I know!!! My parents NEVER told me it was a temporary fix. At 14 I thought I was cured for life. It wasn't until I was in my 40's when a cardiologist said "you do realize you will need to have that...

Welcome Gail. I had my first OHS (aortic valvuloplasty) in 1978. Last year I had my second (aortic arch aneurysm repair, aortic valve mechanical replacement and repair to my innominate artery).
