    Need some HUGE motivation

I'm right there with you. I'm scheduled for AVR on 1/19 and am owning this from the beginning. The diagnosis was made 2 years ago and am glad that the 'sword over my head' will finally go away. I was scared at first but convinced that as long as it's not an emergency, I will prevail! While I...

    AVR up-coming

    The date is set

I just got back Dr Gaudiani's office and I'm scheduled for AVR on Jan 19th. He's recommending an organic valve rather than mechanical. The fun begins!

    Surgery... and post-op

Sarah - I haven't logged in awhile and see what I miss? Very happy to hear things are going swimmingly. Tell him to keep up the good work.

AVR 12/13, could use some encouraging words

Ya know....the BEST part of this board is seeing that this isn't a disease that only affects a certain age group. It's great to have everyone's support through the entire process. Best of luck Nate!

    Surgery on October 13th

Rebecca - I had to laugh about the pill on the floor with the BBQ tongs. We have cats and they would be all over that pill. You've given me ideas on how to handle that situation. Now...on a more relevant note, I'm an account manager for an insurance brokerage. E-mail me if you want to discuss...

    Another Newbie with questions...

Lisa - now you have ME concerned. I'm meeting with the surgeon on the 13th. Honestly, I'd like to schedule this mid-Jan and just get 'er done and over with. Can I ask why your surgery isn't until the end of Feb? If you've had fainting spells, was this your choice to wait?

    Another Newbie with questions...

Lisa: I'm a newbie as well. Glad you found this place. It's been a great resource for me. I had a heart murmur for as long as I can remember. It was only after switching primary doctors that she discovered something a little more serious. I was sent to a cardiologist, Dr Leslie Campbell here...

    A great find!

Lynlw - thanks for the head's up. Obviously everyone has a different idea on things based on their own experience. Since you've been a member for a number of years, your take will be different from mine having just recently joined. I'm doing a ton of research in preparation for my procedure...

    A great find!

Hey all. I'm taking the bull by the horns and trying to make this valve replacement truly on my terms. (or doing the best I can) I found a book called 'The Patients Guide to Heart Valve Surgery' by Adam Pick. I find it to be a great resource that highlights everything from diagnosis to pre-op...

    New date (likely)

Hope this all works out well. The on-again-off-again must be agonizing. Best of luck.

    Newbie, post surgery survey

Dave - I'm meeting with the surgeon on 12/13 to set the date. This board is really REALLY helping me sooth my shattered nerves. One comment you made - 'You are responsible for your own health. Ask questions and get explanations for what medicine is doing what, what are the side affects.' AMEN...

    Newbie and nervous

Thanks everyone. To be honest, this thing has been hanging over my head and I'm a bit relieved that it will be over soon. I'm tired of having this rule my life. I think mid-January works for me. Part of my heart wall is starting to thicken and we want to make sure to get 'er done before there's...
