Traveling to a different time zone, when to take warfarin

I travelled to four continents with Warfarin and other medication and never encountered a problem - in fact no one asked about it. Also the sticker on US medication with the patients name might help here also. Only advice: Take your medication for at least one week supply with your carry on.

    Warfarin Prescription and Anticoagulation Service

Very good advice, just messaged my PCP and the anticoagulation clinic. I do have insurance and my co-pay causes the $30 per “visit” which in reality is sending a message through MyChart. I am not sure if they even bill my insurance and will follow up - but I am afraid that the co-pay is the...

    Warfarin Prescription and Anticoagulation Service

My previous primary care physician moved. For over 7 years I was testing at home, she provided the Warfarin prescription and I sent her once a month my test results. The new physician insists that I am working with the coagulation clinic that requests my testing results now once a week and then...

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

Another option to consider is a mini-sternotomy. This is a procedure where only half of the sternum is opened and also the surgeon should close the sternum with Titanium plates (instead of wires) which fixates the sternum...

New member with the usual dilemma

Thank you - great material and a great discussion. I agree that Ozaki looks promising and could develop into a mainstream procedure in maybe 5 to 10 years. I can live with my mechanical valve but the apparently better performance of the Ozaki valve makes me envious.

New member with the usual dilemma

You might want to check the forum „Die Herzklappe“ which is in German. You can find postings from Dr. Bendik (@Benny) who became the chief of cardiac surgery of a clinic in the Chez Republic but still does surgery in the Helios Clinic - I think one day a month. You can also find his Email...

    On-X in FDA trials

They should study the FDA adverse events data base to look for thromboembolism events. Will also stay at 2.5-3 as I do not like stokes - and unfortunately I know what I am talking about.

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Mark, I really appreciate your summary - wish I would have done the same - even just for me - after my procedure back in 2016. There is so much that I can‘t remember. All in all I do not have any bad memories and any of the procedures pulling out tubes and wires - from what I remember - did not...

AVR a week from Today, Yikes

You should be fine - I did my first 35 mile/3600ft climbing mountain bike ride 8 weeks post op at 58 years old. You might be surprised how much better your heart pumps.

Proact Xa / apixaban trial for On-x valves

I am really feeling good about this self inflicted disaster that this company brought upon themselves. So much confusion and misguidance regarding anticoagulation recommendations with dangerously low INR ranges. The only real low value is currently the share price (-35% since last week) and I...

    Rigid Sternal Fixation

I can only share your experience with my post surgery recovery. I was 58 at OHS 6 years ago and came of Oxy after one day based on my wish (continued on Tylenol), had very little pain, back at work after two weeks and did my fist 30 mile bike ride 6 weeks post OHS. I attribute this also to the...

    6 years

Almost forgot about it and compared to many other members 6 years is small - feel like a rookie. But for me it is important and reminds me how grateful I am that I don‘t even remember. Maybe it was the 24 miles bikeride I did tonight that somehow reminded me. Valve keeps clicking, taking my meds...

    Early 30s, 3 strokes over 7 years of On-X

Appreciate your comment about the more sophisticated treatment options in a hospital - but keep in mind that hours away from any hospital taking immediately Aspirin is better than doing nothing - that was what the advice is about. After five years with no incidents and thousand of miles of...

    Early 30s, 3 strokes over 7 years of On-X

Your experience is very similar to mine - I had a stroke (multiple events on that day) in the middle of nowhere while riding my mountain bike and lost control temporarily of my left arm and leg - and also speech as I found out later when I finally made it back to the car and my wife was waiting...

    Early 30s, 3 strokes over 7 years of On-X

BCAVR - I am sorry to read about your incidents. I can state based on my own bad experience that the claims of the On-X regarding lower INR are dangerous. No matter how many times that company changes their name: now Artivon, previously CryoLife previously On-X Life Technologies and before...
