Yes, I am the new guy

Welcome, Dylan. Glad the site's been so useful already, and happy birthday to your little guy. Indeed, many of us younger folk are lucky to have found the issues when we did, and we'll all keep the good thoughts going as you learn more in January and successfully move through next steps.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ross Procedure?

Apologies, atomlo, I missed your earlier message asking for more details of my experience. I sent some more info to your inbox in a private message.

    Waiting

I'd also advocate for the wise advice above about focusing on some things you can control and then letting go as much as possible. All the best with the journey. There's amazing support to be had around here.

Thanks for participating in that work and updating us. Exciting times that, indeed, will hopefully help others

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ross Procedure?

I'd like to second a number of responses here, particularly the importance of being comfortable with your choice and going with the experienced surgeon. More practice means better outcomes, generally speaking, for all medical procedures. The whole thing does come down to a series of choices in...

    Running after AVR

On the one hand, great to hear about the increase in joy over time. For what it's worth, it took me at least 18 months before I felt right running. I did races and so on in that stretch, but things felt off. Thanks for starting the discussion. Lots of interesting stories in here.

    handstands... do them or no?...

I have something similar with burpees, too. I always figured it was to do with the fact that handstands and burpees involve changing the body's orientation fairly quickly (well, not so much in my particular case :)). As pellicle points out, a safe bet is to just avoid stuff that doesn't feel...

Even my valve is now an old timer

Love the update. Thank you for sharing. The last 25 years and the current stretch of swimming/biking/push-ups are inspiring to us all.

    Heavy lifting post surgery......

Great to see, Silver Bullet. It's amazing how much the recommendations vary.

Trouble with weight loss after surgery?

Yeah, I know that experience as well. It's so frustrating to be active, track food, and be mindful but not be able to move that scale. I'd also advocate for bringing it up to your care team. Some of it, possibility, could also be a stress response. The whole experience and the year after can be...

Surgery in less than a month

Hi Jamieann and welcome. I was in a similar situation in terms of background and timing. As everyone has said, the care teams are rather good about pain management and the like. Honestly, pulling off all the tape applied by the anesthesiologists was the worst part :) Also, you'll find loads of...

Strong emotions at post operative visit

Happy anniversary. We can all benefit, I think, from your summary: 'The best thing I can do is accept my feelings and emotions as they arise, but not spend a great deal of time trying to understand them. They are what they are.' Lots of good thoughts your way amidst all this.

The struggle is real. . . discharged and second guessing myself.

Harriet, as you can see, loads of people here are behind you. As others have mentioned, the initial stretch is rough because we're just not in a place to function well mentally after the trauma of surgery. Please offer yourself some grace and patience. The fact that you're expressing and sharing...

AmyBL made it to the other side, too

What wonderful news. Congratulations. Get your rest and focus on the healing. While no one would pretend recovery is an easy process, it is entirely manageable, and we're all cheering for you.

Migraine triggered by heart rate with exercise

Hi Palious, Yes, after surgery I had similar migraines for several months. They've since passed, but I do also get the auras once in a while as well still (as Paleogirl mentions). Judging by comments on here, all this certainly doesn't seem rare. I hope your doctor can help. I hope you can get...
