    My official post op thread

Sood, 10 weeks is a perfect time for back to Normal declaration. You did really well. Picking up your kid at 8 weeks is pretty cool. I had the same goal post-op, I just wanted to lift my little girl up on her 1st birthday, which was exactly 8 weeks post my OHS.

On the clock - Aortic Valve, Aortic Root, Ascending Aorta, and hemi-arch replacement

Your timeline is a bit too relaxed. You seem like you want a long vacation. ;) If this is the case the timeline is fine. If you have a desk job, you can probably do lots of work stuff 3-4 weeks post surgery if even on a part time basis. Everything else looks to be on par. Heck, take as much...

    9 days and counting

It must be tough to not exercise or be active. Find some good tv shows or movies on Netflix, etc. Could you tell us a little about yourself, age, valve type, which valve you are going for.

dark chocolate and high blood pressure

Not sure about blood pressure, but it always relaxes me and make me feel super calm and happy. Of course, I enjoy 80+% dark chocolate with little, very little sugar, so there is not much sugar rush after.

    10 weeks post surgery

Amiodarone has a long half-life and what we would call a self-weaning drug. You can stop it cold turkey and it will slowly, very slowly leave your system. I personally, reduced my doze on it to half the doze, and then half again, and then stopped completely. Though, this process did not...

Some good news and some other

canon, I was pretty cold post surgery as well, and I was not anemic at all. As time passed I was less and less cold, and then back to normal. Great job hawking up that lung monster. Hope to hear better updates from here on out.

Just went on Coumadin - looking for a good electric razor

no need for electric razor. use a switch blade if you like. just make sure to have something handy to apply pressure so small cuts for 20-30 seconds. I tried electric and it just did not cut it for me (pun intended). Went back to regular Gilete Mach-3 blades and all is fine and dandy.

Be honest: can I do this?

Your timeline sounds reasonable. I bet you can do it even sooner.

Not going to hold back. Going to gym as per normal.

Do not change your life any. Do what you want to do, and when time comes for replacement it will come no matter what you do now. So live, lift, and enjoy! Matter of fact, being in better physical shape will prepare you for better recovery and getting back to weight sooner.

    Over the hump

Another day or two and you will be at home. This is were recovery really speeds up.

Sarah_Louise - Such a Precious Young Age to leave US. We love You and Yours

She always had nice and inspiring things to say. Made many members, me included, feel better many times. Rest in peace girl. Does anyone have details on her passing?

ON-X valve, do you require a wind machine to get to sleep?

Love the ticking. When I push myself hard and my heartbeat gets fast and forceful my teammates hear it and it's fun to see their faces looking for what's ticking. They know it's me, but quite often forget. After the surgery I could here it quite well and used to love to measure my pulse by...

Being re-admitted back into the hospital due to arrythmias

Its a minor set-back. Handle them arrythmias, kick their butt, and get the heck out of there back home to continue recovery.

Exercise and stress with Aortic Aneurysm

This is very good discussion. I have read the Article that EL posted before as well. What is interesting is that they refer to patients with Thoracic Aorta Disease, but there is not a mention of indications for patients form whom the weak parts of aorta were fixed/replaced/etc. I have spoken...

Ascending aortic aneurysm and Bicuspid Aortic Valve--Please talk to me! (New to this)

Hey HopefulHeart, I second, no third, no 57123123ndth, what everyone says. I knew of my BAV and Stenosis from very little age, but I had no idea about my Aortic Aneurysm till very recently. Like many of us, I had zero symptoms, none. Not even the day before surgery. I'm a competitive...

    Good to be back home

I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Finger-Pulse-Oximeter-SM-110-Carry-Wrist/dp/B003TJH3LI I love it. Allows me to see my heart-rate right post heavy or high intensity exercise like when I do heavy kettlebell swings for many many reps.

More gym goodness - 8 week update

Canon4me, I invoke valsalva maneuver all the time. Matter of fact, this is the most important skill to learn to keep things safe for me. When AA (Aortic Aneurysm) is repaired and all the stitching fully heals, your parts are better than new or very very close to new. With that information...

Life time athletes sharing their recovery program and thoughts after surgery

This thread inspired me and motivated me to walk alot post surgery. In fact, I wore out floors in the hospital to a point that they discharged me on day 3 ;) For Surgery details and what I did in the hospital see this...

Deep dive into the literature: my findings about On-X

I remember finding this discussion helpful, so bumping for others to read.

    Good to be back home

Afib can happen initially, the good news is that as your body recovers it is likely to not happen anymore. Keep on working that heart through the hear-rate ranges, and it will all go back to normal pretty soon. I picked up a pulse-oximeter on amazon to get precise heartrate when I need it...
