3rd OHS surgery done - VEST

Wow. Bartonella. I'm familiar with it as a tick borne illness, didn't realize you could get it from a cat scratch! Sheesh.

Back on the merry-go-round, or just caffeine?

Wow, that ejection fraction (30%) is way too low. Hope they get to the bottom of that real soon for you. I was that low prior to my heart attack/double bypass/AVR. Constantly out of breath with simple exercise. My heart wasn't getting the blood supply it needed plus overtaxed with a bad...

    New heart Surgery Patient.

I dunno about that. I left quite a dent in the overhang of both of those machines I headbutted! But seriously, I was able to get Management to install some soft padding over parts of those overhangs although it took awhile. Still dangerous but not nearly as dangerous as what I banged into...

First in Man trial of Warfarin free Mechanical Valve

Interesting. I might have missed it, but I didn't see in the article how much aspirin per day that particular patient was on. Also, sounds like they are postulating that some sort of genetic mutation (?) might be the reason he (or some others) were found to live 30+ years without using warfain...

New member intro! Aorta replacement scheduled for Oct 9

Same with me at some point after my surgery. Asked how I could get to a bathroom or given a jug to pee in. They told me I had a catheter in so no need for that. I was so out of it I had no idea. As far as removing the cath went I'm not going into that long story again but will say that it...

    New heart Surgery Patient.

I would not let that worry you. Is it a possible concern? Sure I guess. What are the odds of a serious bleed event from a blow to the head - I don't know. I can only say that I had not one but two very significant blows to my head at my job while working in a factory hell hole. Both...

New member intro! Aorta replacement scheduled for Oct 9

That happened to me - they closed me up and FORGOT to put my heart back in my chest b4 doing that! When I woke up in intensive care I had to ask what that bloody thing was sitting on top of me. OOPS! They paged Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, and Dr Howard who took me back to the OR, opened me up...

INR - How low should you go?

An illustration of how the medical "experts" that control our care are usually clueless. When ON-X first got approval here in the US to go down to 1.5-2.0 range from 2.0-2.5 range they sent a letter to me about that & said to pass it on to my Dr. His response was " GREAT!!! I LIKE THAT!!". He...

First Surgery Coming Up, And Afraid

Wow. Sorry about your fall. I had to say that just a few days ago when I pulled up in front of my house I witnessed my neighbor trip on her front walk and took a header kind of like you did. She put her arms out in front of her and was able to prevent cracking her head open but bruised her...

Saying hi - 41 year old with BAV and surgery "soon"

Lanekau has a great reputation as a heart place, especially the surgeons. I used to work there many years ago btw, when I first got out of college. Have also seen some cardio Drs there over the years although one of them was one of the worst I've ever encountered (long story, he was a young...

To metoprolol or not to metoprolol

They were tablets. Do not recall what they looked like other than they were small and white. Dosage was 25 mg. Don't know who made them - wait a minute, let me look around, I save my pharmacy receipts and keep them with my tax record each year, that might say who made them....hold...

Testing Strips for Roche CoaguChek XS

The thing about that that doesn't add up for me is If they did not want a flood of usable units cutting into their business then: (1) they could have required the medical device companies to either return them to roche or have a bonfire to destroy them (2) the units are still usable anyways as...

Cleveland Clinic just called. Wanted to schedule surgery for next week!!

Me too. Sometimes because of just Dr failure to really understand the issue they are confronted with. Other times because of inflated egos who KNOW they DON'T KNOW but don't care what happens to the patient period. Other times because of some kind of personal bias. I could go on and on but no...

To metoprolol or not to metoprolol

Wow, that is really interesting and makes sense as far as my own medical history goes. The genetic makeup probably affects a lot of things not just that.

To metoprolol or not to metoprolol

Are you asking about the PPI or the metoprolol? For now I'll assume the PPI because that is a capsule with unknown filler (as opposed to a tablet like metoprolol) - in which case the answer is 30mg Prevacid. And it is the brandname not any of the generic "lansoprazole" options like Tevas...

Testing Strips for Roche CoaguChek XS

That makes sense. Some service changed over to the other units & were then dumping their XS stock. I wonder why they chose to remove the battery cover or blue-lid strip cover thing b4 selling them. I assume they could have asked a higher price if they left them intact.

Testing Strips for Roche CoaguChek XS

That reminds me, I was going to try one of those $29 specials as a backup after I bought my current meter on ebay in June for around $140 but never got around to it. I decided against buying one of the $29 deals as a primary meter because I was dissuaded to see quite a number of buyer feedbacks...

Cleveland Clinic just called. Wanted to schedule surgery for next week!!

Great advice. I had a friend who went in for a routine outpatient procedure (I forget the medical name for it but it involves a Dr putting some kind of tool up your nose and scraping crap out of your sinuses). His regular ear/nose/throat Dr had many years experience doing it. The procedure...

Testing Strips for Roche CoaguChek XS

I'm good for the rest of this year at least but am saving that link. Just wanted to say that checking it now it says "Sold out" (?). Was that a one time thing or will they be selling more (perhaps newer ones) eventually?

To metoprolol or not to metoprolol

Another factor in the dreaming/nightmares, and I may have mentioned this already in another thread (I 4get) is that I am also on a PPI (proton pump inhibitor to help reduce my horrible acid reflux problems). When first put on PPIs I immediately noticed a big increase of very very vivid dreams...
