    Covid Jabs and A Fib

Staying out of the overall vaccine debate, but this seems like an, “After, therefore because”, fallacy. I’ve been cardioverted twice for irregular heart beats that would not self correct. Both were well over a decade before Covid was even a thing. I think having a congenital heart defect...

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

I think people hear “weekly dose” and over interpret what it means. I think of it in terms of if I need an adjustment, take a mg or so off this week to get in range. Which day I take that mg off isn’t that relevant, but if I’m over, it’ll probably be tomorrow. For some reason people hear...

Sweet 16 for Bovine Aortic Valve

A couple of relatively long duration pigs and cows among us lately. Encouraging to hear for folks. Congratulations!

    33 years since #1!

33 years ago today I started my ticking and warfarin journey and was freed from a lifetime of restrictions. 14 years ago last month a got my graft. A couple more years to go and I’ll I’ve doubled up my non-ticking time on this earth.

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

How do I know you’re the real Chuck C and not just trying to trick us into a false sense of security?

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

You definitely have some very serious reasons to consider not going mechanical. My only thought on tissue is to be mentally prepared that a second open heart is in your future at some point. And have hope that TAVR will advance enough by that time that you’ll feel like you won a prize! We...

Recently told I need valve replacement but may not be able to take warfarin

You’re giving a lot of advice for someone who doesn’t believe anyone should be following it.

Joint Statement on Aortic Valve Replacement in Low-Risk Patients Issued by Society of Thoracic Surgeons and European Association for Cardiothoracic Su

I’m still well outside the range and I’m coming up on 33 years of ticking. It’s weird learning what an outlier I remain even after meeting this community.

    Aortic Valve Repair

I had a bout of pancreatitis after my last open heart. Everything tasted way too sweet. I needed the blandest of food to tolerate eating. Lost a lot of weight. Open heart is a very invasive procedure that can be hard on your body in unpredictable ways. I expect it will pass in time, but blood...

    Active duty military outcome

Plenty of healthy folks to choose from without congenital heart defects. Why risk something from a known condition creating an issue for your team in the field when there are enough unknowns to worry about? Makes perfect sense to me that a congenital heart defect would make one ineligible for...

    Active duty military outcome

I’m rather surprised you haven’t been medically discharged yet. I have no experience in such matters. I know someone who was medically discharged due to a collapsed lung. Had enlisted but not yet started basic. Spontaneous Pneumothorax I think it’s called. One time deal, never happened...

    Not doing surgery

Many people do come here for support. Those people actually want support and guidance and will benefit from the experience and information long time participants have to offer. The person that started this thread doesn’t want support. They want attention. It’s been going on for years...

    Traveling after surgery?

We did a family Disney World Trip at the end of March after mid-October surgery. Drove over 20 hours there and back with four kids. Pushed a stroller all over the parks. Took Disney busses from the resort to the parks loading and unloading the double jogging stroller. It’s doable. I was a...

Anyone beside me having issues with the Cleveland Clinic? Cancelling my surgery

At least in the US, you sign the waiver, something goes wrong, you sue, the waiver doesn’t hold up, you win the lawsuit. None of which makes up for a perforated colon. But still.

For those who went to the Cleveland Clinic… did they do this to you?

What I really want to know is why these Medicare scammers are calling me five times a day from different numbers. I won’t be eligible for 15 years anyway. And every time I navigate their robots and get to a live person, they hang up on me before I can finish telling them they’re wasting their...

Anyone beside me having issues with the Cleveland Clinic? Cancelling my surgery

Curious. Do you think with National Health Care systems in other countries that you’re allowed to shop around for only the best providers without having to pay out of pocket? Wondering if any of our Canadian members (or other international members) can share perspective? Are they assigned a...

    Exercise and INR

I do find the more fit I am overall, the higher my maintenance dose. But we’re talking maybe a couple milligrams a week.

New Member Dfw area - St. Jude Valve

Wait. So you admonish @V__ for providing inaccurate information by claiming they said something that they never said. They defend themselves and ask you to provide evidence for what you falsely claim. Then you report them for asking that you prove your assertion? Just making sure I’m...

    New heart Surgery Patient.

I like that you acknowledge some of the fears are nonsensical. But overall this does bring up one of the more important, yet overlooked decision factors in valve choice. The old, “sleep at night” test. Rational or not, sometimes we have to do what makes us the most comfortable, regardless...
