unexpected new warning on my new warfarin supply

Seems a standard warning. Most only take low dose aspirin with warfarin based on their cardiologists instructions anyway. You don’t want to randomly take pain relief doses unless you have no other choice.

    mechanical-heart-valve-noise-may-cause-sleepless-nights

I hear my valve tick. There are times I don’t. But in a quiet room I can always hear it. However, being mostly stable and well adjusted, I accept it for what it is and it doesn’t have an impact on my day to day living or my mood or anything. At most, it’s my go to, “Tell us something unique...

    mechanical-heart-valve-noise-may-cause-sleepless-nights

You’re talking about two separate issues. There’s the heart issue, then there’s the mental health issue. Ticking doesn’t cause anyone to commit suicide. Mental health issues do. People with mental health issues will often find a reason.

    34 years came and went…

Busy busy. Had to get my password reset. Back in November I passed 34 years. Sometime in the next year or two I’ll double up on my time on this earth spent without the valve. While I was 17 when I had it done, I turned 18 in the hospital. Hope everyone is doing well!

    Can you trust your dentist?

I’ve changed dentists. My former dentist emailed my x-rays to my new dentist. No new x-rays needed.

    Fruits

Interesting. And here I am happy to have a, “Can’t eat avocado” to go along with my, “Won’t eat avocado.” I think it’s a texture thing with me. Not a fan.

    .............57 years

Don’t think of it so much as being proud of time passing. Think of it as proud of what you’ve been able to do with the time, which would not have been possible without this little hunk of carbon (or whatever material you’re blessed with). There are several people that exist today that would...

Congrats to you! Shame they don’t recognize your longevity record officially. Minor quibble: So you still eat anything you want. 😁

How Long to Maintain Metoprolol After Surgery?

So far? A little over 14 years. Don’t really notice it.

    Can you trust your dentist?

First and foremost, dental offices are revenue generating machines, and every patient is a source of revenue. Is a cleaning every six months absolutely needed, or is it a guaranteed and consistent revenue stream? 🤔 How often are they trying to sell you something cosmetic when you come in...

New member with the usual dilemma

I’ve had some bad clinics over the past 33 plus years. The worst are the ones that don’t listen to the patient. I’ve gone so far as to simply take note of their recommendation, do my own thing anyway, then test in range. I was fortunate in the late 1990’s to have a PCP that was more in tune...

Post Aortic valve replacement. Are roller coasters safe to ride?

If I were an engineer, I’d build a floor drain into each car and install a power washer in the loading bay. Then, once I’m done spraying down the tourists, the cars would be easy clean up.

    New Member.

Well, sounds like you have two choices then. Replace, or run the clock out. If you’re having any fun in this world at all, opt for choice number one! It ain’t so bad.

New member with the usual dilemma

My only real complaint about a lot of this research is that 19 months is not long term. That’s a blink of an eye. This comes from the perspective of being nearly 34 years in. 19 months ago we were already post pandemic. But that stuff feels like yesterday. I know it’s not possible for a new...

Post Aortic valve replacement. Are roller coasters safe to ride?

Wait - they’re trained? I thought they pushed a button. Repeated the same announcement 500 times a shift. Then made fun of tourists when they went on break.

    Happy Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day to all here. It’s wonderful to enjoy the time with our family’s and children because of these life saving procedures. For some of us, we only lived long enough to have children because AVR exists. 😁

Post Aortic valve replacement. Are roller coasters safe to ride?

I went to Cedar Point many times pre and post AVR in my teens and 20’s. Rode all the big rides. Lived to tell about it. As I remind people, statistically speaking, they’re likely in far greater danger of bad things happening on the drive to the park than at the park itself. Especially...

What is your emergency plan(s) for when warfarin goes wrong?

In 34 years I’ve gone to urgent care one time for blood in my urine. Seems cranberry juice and warfarin don’t mix. That was pre-home monitoring. I think my INR was close to 10 or something ridiculous. Urgent care is like ER-light. Just a staffed clinic. No hospital and lower cost (back...
