Broken blood vessel in my eye.

Yup, quite a few times over the years, and all B.C. (before Coumadin). The episodes occurred when vomiting or coughing strenuously. Broke blood vessels all around my eyes, too. Looks like the measles.

    TEE Fear

Like others have said, other than the unpleasant taste or consistency of the stuff they use to numb your throat, it's a piece of cake. Even swallowing the camera was easy. I've had 2 TEEs in the last 4 years. When John had one about 2 months pre-op, I was concerned he would have problems. He...

    no blood thinners for me???

I agree with Bina. Something just doesn't add up here. My discharge papers listed two RXes -- for a BP med (30 days) and for Coumadin. I also had a lot of instructions about the Coumadin, since I was new to anticoagulation meds -- and when to have my first INR test after discharge. The papers...

12 week INR interval vs. 4 weeks in patients who are "stable" for at least 6 months.

Interesting study, but I'll stick to more frequent testing, since I have my own monitor. I saw my family doctor 2 weeks ago and told him my INR had yo-yoed a little over the last 5 months, but I had been able to bring it in line each time. I have been extremely fatigued, thus the office visit...

    Update: Cort needs prayers

Glad that Cort is on the mend -- I'm sure his "girls" :wink2: are getting eager for him to be able to take them back out for a spin, once he's home and able to drive again.

    Coagucheck vs InRatio

I have been on warfarin for 8+ years and so far have not needed bridging. I have an INRatio. I'll cross the bridging bridge when it's in front of me. Until then, I'll keep on keepin' on with my INRatio.

    Scars and wedding dresses?

There was a "Say Yes to the Dress" episode in the last 3-4 months that featured a bride-to-be who had had OHS as a child. She brought her brothers w/ her who favored very revealing dresses and she wanted a more traditional, more modest dress. She left without buying a dress. Some people say...

    Coagucheck vs InRatio

The ProTime 3 had a built-in battery, making it heavier than the INRatio; test strips had to be refrigerated; and overall, the unit was larger than the INRatio or CoaguChek. I travel a lot on weekends and wanted to take my tester, if needed, so I wanted a smaller unit. I went with the INRatio...

    Coagucheck vs InRatio

The two systems are just about identical in performance and operation. I have an INRatio and have tested it against the CoaguChek in my family doctor's office. There was only 0.1 difference in values. The CoaguChek, made by Roche, has been on the market longer than the INRatio and Roche has...

    Almost bought the farm

BillyG: Glad you're on the mend. What type of fluid was taken off your heart and lungs? If you just had OHS, it's not uncommon for fluid buildup to occur post-op. I'm sure many people here went through that, whether on warfarin or not. Amen.

Please Help - My Mom is getting her Mitral Heart Valve replaced, needs encouragement

Kelly: That's why a support group is so good. We've been there, done that -- in our own shoes, in other's shoes. And not all heart surgery is the same. Bypass surgery, which is probably more common than valve jobs, is not the same as valve surgery. However, some people are not comfortable in a...

    CRISPY (baked) Yam Fries

I've bought the frozen sweet potato fries and oven-baked them. I love baked sweet potatoes and the oven-baked sweet potato fries (I pass on sweet potato casseroles served at Thanksgiving and Christmas -- too sweet for me). Many restaurants have an option of baked sweet potato or regular potato...

    A trip to the US

Rocky: Geeze.... Exactly what RXes did you have filled at Walmart? That's a heckuvalot. If you had had generic warfarin, that would have only been $10 an RX at the most for those ($10 for 90 tabs). Years ago, I was at a cat show in Oklahoma and a judge I was keeping records for had forgotten...

Best way to purchase INRatio2 on my own dime?

Canada is a fair drive from California. I've purchased RXes in Mexico and gone across the border with them and also bought an RX ophthalmic powder in Toronto and flew back with it. Those are very small potatoes compared to buying a medical device and going across the border with it. The only...

When Valve Goes bad and Surgery is refused.

I saw a cardio on 4/29/03 and he said I needed surgery ASAP. I replied that I had some projects I needed finishing and needed to wait until my niece was married in October. He told me I didn't have that much time. I didn't ask what would be the disease progression, but each day was more of a...

    INR and injections

Sid: I had a colonoscopy 3 years ago and refused to go off warfarin. (I was stubborn about that.) So the GI doc said he'd do it if I got my INR down to 2.5. I home-test, so I was able to monitor it down to 2.5. Whaddyaknow? They never asked what my INR was the morning of the procedure!!! We had...

    Arthroscopic knee surgery gone bad

Susan: Kristy and Protimenow are most likely correct in suspecting Lovenox as a or the culprit. Lovenox is known to cause bleeding.
