    Staying the Course -- 11/05/2018

Surviving the change back to normal time. I'm waking up at 4 AM. Should go back to normal in a week. Looks like I'm consistently weighing in at 183 lbs, down from around 188. Still trying to get closer to 175 and this isn't the time of year to do that. My surgery weight was 177 and that was 6...

mitral valve repair and dental work

My cardiologist gave me my prescription for Amoxicillin, 2,000 mg (four 500 mg capsules) to take 1 hour before dental appointment. He gave me 12 refills so I usually get a refill to keep around the house in case of emergency.

    Staying the Course -- 10/15/2018

HB, the hike was not boring. The goal was the top of the ridge with great views. We had views of the coast from one side and then a valley on the other side. There were a couple short vertical rock climbs to break up the gentle grades. Lots of tropical plants. I wish it was a longer hike.

    9 years since #2

Congratulations on the anniversary. I grew up in Lansing but left a long time ago.

    Staying the Course -- 10/15/2018

It's been a couple weeks s since my last post. Last week my wife and I visited our daughter and family and grandkids in Kauai Hawaii. I didn't get as much exercise as I wanted but we did a hike up a hill called Sleeping Giant. It took a little over 2 hours to hike up and back about 3.6 miles...

    Retun to roots

Great story Jack. I think I ran my first 10K race about 1976. You're doing well to still be out there. Keep going and inspiring us.

    Anxious About Mitral Valve Replacement.

I had mitral valve replacement 6 years ago. I was in good health with no other issues. My doctor gave me the option of doing minimally invasive surgery or the normal thru the sternum. I chose minimally invasive where he went thru the ribs on my right side. They can't do that if you need a...

    Staying the Course -- 09/24/2018

SB, great to hear you're surviving the storm aftermath. I'm posting late in the week. Too busy. Last Sunday I had to install a new rain gutter in the back of the house. Luckily it's a single story so the ladder climbing was not too high. I still need to seal the seams so it doesn't leak. And...

    Staying the course 9/17/18

OK, I fudged the date in the title. It's already Thursday and no posts! SB, bet you have had enough rain. Hope you kept dry and are doing well. It was great to hear you Dr. report was positive news. Here in So Cal it's cooling off and the weather is near perfect. We could use a little rain...

    Staying the Course 9/4/2018

It's Tuesday, where is everybody? Hope SB doesn't find out we're not on top of this. Hope everyone in the US had a great Labor Day weekend. I got 4 stitches in my calf after an accident with a trash bag with broken glass in it. And on Warfarin it did bleed. I'm back to walking without...

    Staying the Course 8/28/18

I'm here, nothing to report. Busy with work during the week. I read the posts but no time to post myself. The weather has been a little cooler this week so fall is around the corner. I took a jacket to work this week. No weight loss to report and little walking. Tuesday night after dinner I sat...

    Colonoscopy

My colonoscopys were done at a surgical center, not a hospital. They gave the antibiotics in the IV. Make sure they know that you need that in your pre-procedure meeting and when they are preping you.

    Colonoscopy

I've had 2 colonoscopys. No issues. Dr knew and gave me instructions on warfarin. I have a tissue valve and my INR is not as critical. I've also had a couple minor surgeries that required going off warfarin. No problems but you should work with all doctors on what to do, both on gastro and...

    Staying the Course -- 08-20-2018

I've enjoyed all the posts this week. As we get older it's very important for us to have a social life. My wife and I have run 2-3 days a week with a club and friends. Right now we meet Tuesday night, Sat & Sun mornings and after we eat and visit after for an hour. Don't become a recluse, it's...

    Staying the Course -- 08-20-2018

Not much to report from So Cal. Fires are under control. Just working. Today is my 6 year anniversary of my OHS. Not walking enough so gained a few lbs and cardio not as strong. Still doing well but hope to improve. Enjoy the end of Summer.

    Staying the Course -- 07/30/2018

SB, we could use some of that rain out here in CA, the Fire state. Just returned from a 3 day weekend to the eastern Sierras in the north with my wife. We stayed in Mammoth Lakes, altitude 7880 feet. The smoke from the local fires blocked the views of the peaks on the drive. First day we did a 4...

    Staying the Course -- 07/23/2018

It's been a few weeks since I've posted. Gained a few lbs a couple weeks ago and I think it's finally gone. Still not walking as much as I want to. It's been over 100 around here (115 one day). Hot spell started again today. I was shocked to read the announcement about the future of the website...

    Staying the Course -- 06/25/2018

Sorry to hear the horrible news from Fred and jwinter. I'll pray the families can get through this difficult time. I'm finally getting back to walking after a couple low mileage months. Yearly walking/running is at 288 miles, well below my 500 target. I still have the second half of the year...
