    Buying strips online

I buy strips on ebay. I usually buy the box of 48 and wind up checking my INR more than I need to. Sometimes I even test daily because I want to get a real feel for how this INR thing works but that's just me. I think most people would be fine with a box of 24. The expiration date is usually...

Set for surgery on April 14th

Guest - When I had my surgery I was 55 and I faced the same issue as you of being in the gray area age wise for picking a valve type. I decided on a mechanical valve because the bottom line was that I didn't want to put myself through another surgery around 70. I don't find taking Warfarin to...

    Two missed doses. PLease ehlp!

Me too. I've made it part of my morning routine so I don't forget. The "INR Manager" at my cardiologist's office told me the same thing, take it in the evening so they can make dosage adjustments. I told her that I was sticking to mornings so I won't forget to take it and she acted like I was...

What were the signs that lead you to OHS?

No symptoms. I had a very slight murmur all my life and when I went to our family doctor for a yearly exam (it had actually been 2 years between exams) in August 2015 her eyes got big and she said that my little murmur was huge! She sent me for an echo which showed a bicuspid valve problem and a...

My appetite was back in full swing 5 days post surgery. I was kind of looking forward to losing a few pounds when I got home from the hospital but that didn't happened.

    mechanical or tissue valve

Hi Natascha! I was 55 when I had my surgery last year and I did my homework looking into mechanical and tissue valves, I went with Mechanical. Personally, if I were 38 I would definitely go with mechanical. I have a home testing meter which is very convenient for testing my INR and managing...

    BAV surgerye

Hi Mick! I'm like you, I never had any surgery or serious medical issues and then out of nowhere I was being told I needed open heart surgery for a BAV replacement and an aneurysm! It came as a total shock so I know how you feel. In my case I was diagnosed and told I needed surgery in August...

    Dental clean after Valve Replacement

I had to have clearance from the dentist before the surgery and was told not to go to the dentist again until 6 months post op. I premedicate with antibiotics before a dental procedure and do not adjust my warfarin dose.

    Funny Hallucination Stories

Oh and I have another one...... When they were rolling me into the OR I was quite happy, actually kind of giddy, and I was looking all around the room commenting in a giddy high pitched voice on all the equipment and how cold the room was and I was asking them to show me equipment and how it...

    Funny Hallucination Stories

I have no memory of this but apparently when I woke up I insisted I was going to take a walk with my husband to the point where I tried to get up and leave! I got somewhat agitated and starting fighting with the nurses etc to let me leave and apparently I was using some colorful language, LOL! I...
