    Tired of the anxiety

I totally get what you are feeling. I waited 14 YEARS! They told me to expect surgery within 5 years, but it ended up being a 13 YEAR wait. How did I spend my time? After the first couple of years, I generally quit worrying so much except for the week or two leading up to my annual check...

    Cardioversion tomorrow

I was facing that but they elected to wait. You will be asleep, so I don't think you'll feel a thing. My afib was helped greatly by the addition of 400 mg of Mg supplements each day. It is totally gone now!

    What Happened to My Scar?

You must be a good healer. I'm jealous. I"m 5 months post op and still have a 3 inch red dash down the center of my chest. The scar was getting really "ropey" and tight, so I've had two injections of cortizone to the scar 4 weeks apart which supposedly helps with keloiding. RIght now it...

For reops: are you glad you started with tissue?

Congrats on your decision, Pem. No matter which valve you get it will be better than the one you have. I had surgery at 47 and went with the On-X. I wasn't too worried about the ACT because I am a good pill taker. I'm almost 5 months post op and the ACT has really not been a big deal at all...

Article on my heart surgery experience - see link

That was wonderful, Allison. I especially love the photos. The one of you and your daughter is precious. The one of your scar is beautiful and strong, capturing the magnitude of the surgery and your grace and strength in recovery. It is the most beautiful scar picture I've ever seen. You...

    Feeling scared

It is normal to be scared. I remember vividly the feelings of "I dont' want to do this" and feeling trapped because I had not choice. Focus on the outcome. It really does help. I know it's hokey, but everytime you have a negative thought visualize a routine, easy surgery with an ideal outcome...

    Unusually high HR ?

And I'm happy to report my resting HR this morning --66. Sometimes it's in the 50s. Presurgery it was NEVER below 75. "Course I'm still chemically enhanced with the heart drugs. But a lower heartbeat feels a lot better than one over 100.

General physician says aortic valve at 1.3 cm with stenosis of the aorta.

Avoid the Fat Bag of crack for sure Avoid the Fat Bag of crack for sure Hey, there- I was diagnosed at 1.0 cm2. 2.5 cm2 is the normal aortic diameter. Anything under 1.0 cm2 means its time to start paying attention, so you probably have some time. It seems that the Aortic Stenosis can be...

    Unusually high HR ?

Hi, Carl- I noticed pounding/strong/racing heart beat at about week 2 as well. If you are like me, you can probably hear your heart beat if you tilt your head just right. I would listen to the regularity of those beats, too. Are they even or is the heart skipping around. Right after surgery...

    What is your INR target?

I have an On-X valve and some afib issues. My INR between 2.0 to 3.0. Before the aFib issue, my INR target was 1.5-2.5--very low. I am comfortable living in the 2-3 range and it is easier to maintain than the lower range.

Any advice? I'm going down with a cold post op.

You can take mucinex or coricidin hbp. You have to careful as some cold medications may interact with any of the heart/bp meds you might be on right now. These two were okay'd for me. Feel better!

Bicuspid Valve with Severe stenosis - Need some feedback

Welcome, Ron! I was having lots of palpitations and lightheadness just before surgery too. 1. I just had my aortic valve replaced in January via a mini-sternotomy incision which is about as minimally invasive as it gets for AVR. My scar is 2 5/8" long and is quite "cute." :-) They should...

    How you feel after surgery

Message to Carol Message to Carol Re/ dry cough- I had that too it was really painful to be constantly coughing. One thing that helped me a lot was cough drops to keep your throat from drying out. Mucinex at night helped too.
