    Ladies....Only!

I got a Hanes zip front sports bra from Sears. It was comfy and easy enough to get on and priced right. I could adjust the zipper a little for comfort. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_018J0079000P?i_cntr=1308349555210 By the 3rd week I could wear the pull on sports bras. I wore...

    Success Rate of AVR OHS

97% is good! 97% is good! And just think, those 3% who didn't make it -- probably had waited too long or had other complicating factors. If you have a BAV with stenosis, you probably have a higher chance of mortality in the next few years if you do not have the surgery.

    7weeks post-op

Hi, MIchelle- me again. YOu poor sweetie. It's okay. I had a similar situation with my Maggie (14 year old irish setter) and keeping her on before and after my surgery. I decided to wait on putting her down, and she was around for my recovery, but I just had to put her down 2 weeks ago. It...

what is proper inr range for avr?

Immediately post surgery, my INR target was set for 1.5-2.5. This is a non-standard range, but okayed by my doctors because I have an ON-x valve. Then I developed Afib so the INR range was bumped up to 2.5-3.5. The Afib is gone now, so I have settled on a range of 2-3 because I found it was...

    7weeks post-op

HI, Michelle- Hang in there, baby. :-) I remember feeling around month 2 so frustrated that recovery was going too slow. I thought I would be back at work at week 8, but it took 12 weeks. Just get your rest and walk when you can. It will help with the swelling. Are they giving you Lasik...

5 wks. Post-Op chest pain and discomfort.

I wouldn't worry too much yet. I'm 5 months post op and still have rib/cartilidge tenderness when I press on different areas of my chest. I would also say I had similar pain that you describe above for the first 3 or so months. I was worried the sternum wasn't healing properly because I had a...

Since OHS Do You Get Sick More Often?

I am 5 months post op today. I was sick a lot the first 2 months, but have not been sick at all since. I take a daily vitamin which I think helps the immune system. I would say that I am sick less than I was before surgery or that I've noticed no difference.

    First week back at work!

Welcome back, Wanda. Take it easy and pace yourself and you'll be doing more soon. I've noticed a worsening of my vision and the need for stronger reading glasses since surgery, but that could be natural progression as I'm 47.

    Valve Failing?

On-X vs ATS open-pivot - The Truth is Out There

All of us On-X valvers should check back in in about 4 years. When I was choosing valves, ATS wasn't mentioned by surgeons. My choices were St. Jude or On-X.

    Household checklist

I boarded my large dog for the first 4 weeks. She was older and required a lot of cleaning and care (baths, help up and down stairs) that I couldn't give immediately post surgery. That was the best call I made as I wasn't tempted to lift her. Can your inlaws keep the dogs? I was often asked...
