New Non Invasive Treatment for Aortic Stenosis

Interesting that they're pursuing this. Pellicle, urgh to the chunky bits--seems they would certainly need to capture the "debris"! I'm also thinking of how misshapen valves become as they calcify.

Early tissue valve failure. Anyone else? (Also have complex issues w/ meds.)

Hearty thanks to you all! Paleowoman, I appreciate your taking the time to share these details about your journey, your valve, and the way you follow up on it. It encourages me to know that in your case there was another explanation for the "abnormal" (for lack of a better word) echo. You've...

MAYBE #3 OHS in my future...ick

Hi Aliceann. I just returned here after a long absence, since learning that I'll need a second surgery. I can't help with your questions, but I do know how scary Afib feels. Sorry to hear you suffered that. And when I had a cath three years ago, I hadn't had one in 40+ years. I found the...

Early tissue valve failure. Anyone else? (Also have complex issues w/ meds.)

Thanks very much, everyone, for your kind words and thoughts and for sharing some possible steps as I find my way forward. Paleowoman, was your valve also showing stenosis on your echo? The cardiologist was alarmed that my aortic valve area had gone from 1.7 to 1.3 in a year. I appreciate...

Early tissue valve failure. Anyone else? (Also have complex issues w/ meds.)

A warm hello! I've returned, because I learned this week that the bioprosthetic valve I received during surgery at CC in late 2016 is failing quickly. I wonder whether there may be someone here who has needed to walk this path. My cardiologist says there is no way to find out what is wrong...

    Option for AVR

Yes. I had no symptoms whatsoever prior to my surgery last September. My stenotic valve had just moved to "severe," but surgeons felt it wise to go ahead and address an aortic aneurysm, as well as replace the valve and root.

    Aortic root Repair

Can't contribute about repair to the root. I had root replacement, valve replacement and aortic aneurysm replaced with dacron graft a few weeks ago. Hope you've been able to learn more since your post.

    Waiting for surgery

Wishing you very smooth sailing! It's great that you can have the minimally invasive surgery.

    2 years today

Congrats! I was wondering the same as AZ Don, whether the afib has been ongoing or only showed up right after surgery.

    This has been scary

70 was a one-time reading today; HR has remained in the 40s; therefore still haven't been able to take beta blocker. And the cardiology office hasn't responded to my letter and phone message. I wish my own cardio hadn't left on vacation.

    Changing Docs?

I needed to change cardiologists last year, because I knew more about my condition than that doctor did, and he wanted testing that could have harmed me. "He could have killed you!" quipped the new cardiologist. It feels much safer to be in better hands now.

    Time for Aortic Aneurywm Repair?

Cleveland Clinic used that formula when I consulted them. They considered my body size, aneurysm size, and the bicuspid valve as risk factors. I was over 11 and therefore their threshold; they recommended surgery, which I had 9/29. My aneurysm was 4.9 cm at largest point. I'm 5'4".

    This has been scary

I really appreciate that you guys have kept talking to me. And Steve, thanks so much for all you've shared with me about your pacemaker. That possibility was mentioned in the last few days for me. So, I learn my cardiologist is on vacation all week. I've faxed a letter to his nurse and left...

    This has been scary

I called the post op nurse line in Cleveland. She said to dial 911 because having my heart rate parked in the 30s for a day and a half wasn't okay. ER reaffirmed this. Caroline and Agian, I didn't type here the several things my cardiologist mentioned could be outcomes. Like the heart no longer...

    This has been scary

Thanks, you guys. It really has been one complication after the other since my surgery. I had three ER visits between 10-10 and 10-17. Was hoping to avoid another one. Cardiologist Thursday seemed to think I might need to skip a dose or two of Metoprolol. He didn't instruct for this! I was...

    This has been scary

Probably I was remiss for not checking my heart rate for a few days, maybe a week, I dunno, and just trusting that my assigned medications were okay. But I have been doing so much doctoring for this, that and the other issue. Checking where incisions popped open a bit; following cellulitis and...

    nosebleeds, anyone?

Thanks, all. Will keep in mind an ENT doc, if these were to persist. Hopefully, they won't.
