    Before and After

    Wow, I definitely was too self conscious to be taken any pictures when I still had my chest tubes in! You look surprisingly good though. I have the bump at the top of my scar, it is pretty small. They told me it would not go away for at least a couple months. brad

    Swelling in Feet and Hands

    I had the same thought. I had not been weighing myself because I did not have a scale, but sent someone out to pick one up tonight so i can track it over the weekend... Brad

    Flying Home Tomorrow

    Hi All, Just finished reading all of your warm responses to my girlfriend's update on Thursday night. Thanks for all the well wishes on the recovery process. I had to get my aortic root replaced along with my valve, so my decision was between a mechanical valve with a sleeve acting as the...

    Update on Brad

    Hi, this is Brad's girlfriend, he asked me to post how his surgery went. He went into surgery at 9:30 am this morning and was in the ICU ready for us to see him at 5 pm, nice and unconscious. I just got back from the hospital and they are planning on removing his breathing tube soon. He...

    Just 3 Days Away

    So I leave for Mayo tomorrow afternoon. A buddy of mine is driving me to Chicago because I am flying from O'Hare to Rochester (tickets out of South Bend were just too expensive). Have all of my pre-op stuff of Wednesday including an echo (to make sure my pulmonary homograft is still functioning...

    anticipating postop-back to work?

    Of course everyone recovers at their own pace, but after my first surgery about 6 years ago, when I was 17, I was back at high school half-days after three weeks and back full time after 4 weeks. I remember feeling completely recovered by the time Christmas came around (3 months post-op) and...

    Pulmonary Valve Need Replacement

    Hi Kristie, I understood you completely when you said "Needless to say I'm devestated." I still remember the helpless, depressing feelings swirling through my mind when I found out my Ross was failing. The Ross was probably sold to you as a "cure" -- the perfect valve replacement that will...

    Redbull =Bad for heart?

    I'm not going to lie, I definitely have been known to throw back quite a few red bull and vodkas. In fact, I probably had 6 at the bar last night and they don't seem to negatively effect me too much, but everyone's reaction is, of course, unique. Of course, there won't be any more of that after...

    Surgery Decision and Dates

    Thanks for that story Nancy. It is an excellent point and one that my surgeons told me. Each re-op becomes more and more difficult due to the scarring, etc...Having many surgeries is definitely not something I want and is indeed why I have decided to go with the mechanical valve -- reduces the...
