    Need some guidance

Greetings. For me, the point about anxiety was key. I didn’t like the wait and see approach. I had surgery at 41 (almost 42) and am now 5 1/2 years out. I don’t regret it. I went mechanical. If I waited, I would have been so nervous about every little twinge or weird feeling. I also wanted to...

    Aortic Dissection awareness Week

Yes, another actor, Alan Thicke, died of the same. I was aware of the John Ritter foundation - I contacted them when I was first learning of my situation- they were extremely helpful and solidified my choice of surgeon. They are also running a genetics study.

    Aortic Dissection awareness Week

So apparently sept 19-26 was aortic dissection awareness week. I missed it. Google the John Ritter foundation - maybe I’ll catch it next year.

    Smart Watch etc. Heart Arrythmias

No, but I’ve been wondering about the Apple Watch. Interested to see what others reply.

    Ferro and INR

Same here. Mine was 7, but I became anemic due to heavy blood loss during my period from warfarin. Iron supplements did not affect my Inr.

    Endometrial biopsy

Thank you! My cardiologist and obgyn spoke today. They agreed I could stay on Coumadin but get off of aspirin 5 days prior to procedure.

    Warfarin bruising

Same here. I tripped when holding my dog one day and my arms and legs turned some lovely colors. It took about two weeks or so to heal.

    Endometrial biopsy

Hi! I just learned that I need an endometrial biopsy. I am checking with my doctor, but wondering if anyone has this procedure while on warfarin. If so, did you need to stop warfarin, and did you take antibiotics? I assume the answer to both questions is no. Thanks.

    Apple watch users out there?

I think it’s great and was considering it. The only reason I did not was I was a little concerned about radiation exposure. Not sure if I’m crazy. Particularly with an aneurysm, it sounds like a good idea for you.

Do you take amoxicillin @ dental visit?

Yes, I just did so last week for a cleaning. My sister, who also had surgery, is taking penicillin and had to get off of warfarin for a wisdom tooth removal coming up. I believe she was given heparin shots.

Vertigo, Visual Disturbances and 'wobbly' feeling

Yes, could be the bright sun or the crouching and standing up. When I weed, I have to stand up every few minutes. Something about the crouching too long must affect my blood pressure because otherwise I am dizzy when I rise. This never happened pre-surgery.

    Joining the Valve replacement Family

Welcome! You will find great resources on this website. Many helpful people! I had a St Jude aortic valve put in at age 41. Just passed my 5 year mark. I just returned from running sprints with my daughter....life on warfarin is normal.

Very Confused Valvular Leak Tricuspid Leak

I’m sorry to hear this news. About six weeks after my surgery, they thought I had a leak after viewing my post- surgery echo. I recall posting here and looking for resources. There isn’t much available on these issues. My surgeon explained that in my case, it was simply how the valve worked -...

Vertigo, Visual Disturbances and 'wobbly' feeling

I don’t have exactly the same thing but I now get migraine with aura (no headache...just flashing sparkles like a kaleidoscope and nausea) after my surgery. If I take a Tylenol within a few minutes, it goes away. If I miss that window, I feel miserable and the sparkles get worse. They seem...

    Spike for no reason?

I typed this whole long response yesterday and I see it’s not here. No energy to retype, so to summarize - I eat whatever I want, no regime, no watching consistent vitamin k. Other than a few blips like this recent one, I’ve been consistent for my 5 years of home testing. Usually in my range...

    Spike for no reason?

Thanks, all! My doctor had me reduce to 5 mg tonight (I usually take 7.5 mg every night) and I will test again next week.

    New but Lurking for Months!

I agree about anemia after AVR. I have always been borderline but became severely anemic after my surgery - doctor said I had literally no iron, I think a 7 or something. I started taking Iron pills (Vitron C, which has Vitamin C as well) and it corrected. I don’t take them much anymore, just...

    Spike for no reason?

So I am usually very good at weekly testing and generally pretty consistent in my results. However, I’ve been working an insane amount of hours, now from home, and got out of my routine. Just tested tonight after a few weeks. First reading was error 6. No clue what that meant. Tried again, and...
