Haha...my personal context is straight ***. So there is limited potential for bacteria getting in through the gums (if one practices excellent oral hygiene), or the urethra?
No...not according to the 'reputable medical professional' who had some involvement with my surgery. Anyway, I've said my piece, believe what you want. Just trying to help someone who self describes as 'OCD' from blowing a gasket.
'Stress kills'.
The surgical intervention point in Canada for ascending and root aneurysm may be lower when valve is bicuspid. There is probably a range that the surgeon will consider (along with other factors).
The bicuspid aortic valve is considered diseased, and inherently has performance and longevity...
Mechanical. On-X is a high performance valve. I like to be hands on with my own care, switched over to a Coaguchek. The warfarin is a non-issue.
If there is any chance of an ascending aortic aneurysm, consider a mechanical aortic prosthesis like this one...
Thanks for the responses thus far. I would suggest that anyone with a flail leaflet discuss this thoroughly with medical staff before going through a procedure like an angiogram.
Some are in heart failure with an EF of 55%+. And the typical echo only tests EF at rest (some elite cyclists have low resting EFs). Point is, the numbers do not always tell the whole story.
Resting 97/57 HR 48
Cycling fast with high pedal tension 137/79 HR 156
Even though the BP is not that high, it feels pretty pressurized with the pedal resistance. The body feels the fatigue more than the lungs do.
As a precaution, last December when I was undergoing tests that would identify...
No, I've taken up to 6 grams a day at times, zero effect on INR. It's like saying aspirin could increase your chances of dying...yea it could if you ate a couple bottles.
They were seeing a pattern of patients requiring an additional surgery as the aneurysm increased in size after the initial valve replacement. So they like to take care of the problem areas while they are in there. Plus, the surgeon described how the valve is seated better in an ascending...
I'm just over 6 ft (weighed around 200lbs the time of the echo). My ascending aorta was 4.4, aortic root 3.9 (bicuspid valve was in bad shape). Replaced with ascending aortic prosthesis.
If in doubt, just try to stay off the side if you can. If you can't...probably not a big deal but your surgeon will know best. I remember having to wait a while before sleeping on my side was a total non issue.
