    Medtronic Freestyle Root Bioprosthesis

Use has increased because of fear or not wanting to take a medication. Just know that quite a few who choose tissue valves for the lack of anti-coagulation end up on the anti-coag meds. You could get atrial fibrillation and end up getting prescribed Warfarin anyway. At your age the only thing...

Is numbness of the feet a sign things are getting worse?

Oh wow. I hope not either because the surgeon is going to Thailand and won't be available for awhile after next week.... I scheduled this around the election to make sure I could still make it to vote. What day was your surgery supposed to be again?

Is numbness of the feet a sign things are getting worse?

So, when I went to that appointment he had no clue my symptoms were worsening, even though I let the nurse know. She just brushed me off. He also stated that in those past two months the amount of really sick people coming in was huge. All that said, my wife is having shoulder issues and needs...

On- X valve is superior to outdated one like st jude and ATS

Didn't someone say that in order to be at the lower inr you had to take prophylactic aspirin? So OK, you can have a lower inr, but you still have to take warfarin, and you have to add an additional medication to it in the aspirin.

On- X valve is superior to outdated one like st jude and ATS

Where did you see something that said the FDA agreed On-X was better? I believe all the FDA does is approve or not approve devices, not tell you which ones are better.

Is numbness of the feet a sign things are getting worse?

I told my wife she is welcome to draw on my toes, but if she video tapes me acting a fool as I'm coming out of anesthesia and posts it on facebook divorce will be on the table. LOL I am not telling my family about my surgery until the night before. I don't want anyone flying in to be there. :P...

    Surgery date set!!!

I will be having surgery in exactly one week on Monday the 14th. The doctor came into the room and very quickly said he would fix the aortic aneurysm along with the aortic valve. Knowing his qualifications this was pretty much enough for me to decide to go with this doctor over the other one...

    Question regarding life on anti-coagulants

That's why I brought up the nose bleeds to the surgeon. Some people get them, some don't. I have always gotten them, my wife said she's had ONE her entire life. On another note, I have my other consult scheduled. :) Monday afternoon. Then I will have to choose one and schedule my surgery.

Question for US members about legal support for getting home if disabling stroke occurs after TAVar or SAVR

Alzheimer's is a monster unto itself. To have everything that you are slowly eaten away..... It is a nightmare.

Question for US members about legal support for getting home if disabling stroke occurs after TAVar or SAVR

My mother had Multiple Sclerosis and my father did all her care. She was mostly immobile. She could sit in a wheelchair for an hour without it wiping her out for the rest of the day, but going out to meals left her exhausted. He lifted her in and out of bed, in and out of the wheelchair. Luckily...

Question for US members about legal support for getting home if disabling stroke occurs after TAVar or SAVR

Why do I need a psychiatric advance directive? I don't have a mental health issue and don't show any signs of Alzheimer's? I am not about to get committed to a psychiatric facility, I am about to have heart surgery.

Question for US members about legal support for getting home if disabling stroke occurs after TAVar or SAVR

Yeah, I was sort of assuming there was someone there. It is probably a good idea to have a care plan put together should this happen if you want to stay home and have no in-home support currently. Provisions for their care at home should something bad happen. I mean, obviously no matter what the...

Question for US members about legal support for getting home if disabling stroke occurs after TAVar or SAVR

Thank you for this. While now that my mom has passed, I lean towards believing my dad wouldn't get involved in the medical decision, we are going to get this done ASAP, just in case. I love my parents, but they are/were (in the case of my mom since she's no longer here) conservative, pro-life...

That would be in the junk drawer, which is also in the kitchen. :P

    Question regarding life on anti-coagulants

I'm not sure, but it sounded like the actual worry was highly physical activities in which you could get hit hard and risk of internal bleeding. As far as my nose bleeds he did ask how often they were and how often I have to get help to have them stop bleeding, which is a few times a year, and...

Question for US members about legal support for getting home if disabling stroke occurs after TAVar or SAVR

I thought spouse's were able to make these types of decisions without power of attorney. One of the reasons I married my wife was because I knew she would do what I wanted (ie: pull the plug, cremation) unlike my parents who would want to keep me alive on a machine forever which is my worst...

    Question regarding life on anti-coagulants

I love to cook, and every once in awhile I cut my finger. Is this something to worry about while taking anti-coagulants? Or is it only bigger injuries that are an issue? This was the first thing I thought of when leaving the doctor and thinking I had made up my mind about getting a mechanical...

    First surgical consult down!

A regular size pencil eraser on the end of a pencil. LOL He didn't say film. LOL He said CT images or something like that. For some reason they can't digitally transfer that information to me. *shrug* I had to call the business office and have the imaging put on a CD. Then I went and picked...
