Whilst that is the correct link to buy test strips from the Roche authorised distributor, in reality I suspect most UK people get their strips on prescription from their GP/local doctor. If they have to pay for their prescriptions, that would be about £10 (US$12). 90% of people don't pay - they're free if you are a child, over retirement age, on certain social security benefits, or have a chronic condition. I suspect I have missed some categories.

Of course we DO all pay through tax!

I personally am grateful to find sellers who sell INR strips. I see no problem with them posting on this site. If people don't want to use them then it is thier choice.
If you require any supplies, please reach out to me and my team and we will get you sorted.

Yes, but when you get your health insurance through work in the US you may as well pay a higher tax rate. I pay like $370 every 2 weeks for my work sponsored health insurance. I did buy the most expensive plan though, knowing hubby would most likely need surgery this year. It can be argued that private insurance is better, in getting seen quicker etc, except it seems lately I have read about SO many people having to wait here for doctor's appointments. Appointments we used to be able to get within a month, a lot of times in a week if you wanted to schedule that quickly, are just not happening.

I'm not sure about needing a prescription to buy a meter or strips.

BUT Roche won't sell to individual users - they will only provide meters THROUGH services - the services may send you a meter, they may send you strips, but they CHARGE the insurance a LOT more than it would cost just for meter or strips. They usually don't give dosing advice - afaik - this comes from the doctor who they transfer the results to.

You need a doctor to prescribe your warfarin and, in most cases, someone in the doctor's office gives you dosing instructions.

You CAN'T get your warfarin without a prescription (although I got some overseas when I didn't have a doctor to prescribe it). It makes sense to require a prescription for warfarin, just as it makes sense to require a prescription for insulin and other drugs that require careful dosing.

Also - I'm not sure you can find a NEW XS -- for the price, it may make sense to pay a bit more for an InRange and assure a bit of future proofing.

As far as SelfCareDepot, Reliaston, and others - both are legitimate dealers of supplies, but only one at this point is in the sponsor directory. I know where MY business will go - because it's a sponsor - when I need new strips.

One more thing -- I didn't know WHERE to find the Sponsor directory. If you click the Forums tab at the top of each page, the sponsor directory, with selfcaredepot's listing is right at the top. This can direct people right to them. It may be more effective than burying the info into a thread that will probably become relatively inactive in a few weeks or months. If you need strips, just open the Forums tab, and there it is.

I've cleaned up quite a bit of this thread.

If there were any misunderstandings it could have been reported, pms sent, anything but berating the sponsor who chose to be here is not the way to go upon grievences.

This is their thread, they have every right to post it.

That said, I should have given a heads up as I know this is something newish for VR. I sincerely hope you all accept my apology for not catching this sooner, and not letting you guys know how this market works.

That was my guess, too, but I couldn't understand how this effects a person in Toronto.

Oh - lancets ALWAYS cost less than food -- unless you're eating scraps or living on off label cereal.
you got it, and now you know a little about ripple effects, there is a 100 years old brit saying here, "when uncle sam has a bad cold, the rep of the queen is in ER here...., bonus, !! now you know two things. and as per the costs, yeap, since BB printed another trillion pieces of paper all changed :)

I cleaned this thread again.

If you'd like to discuss the sponsor or their product this is the thread for it.

Everything else needs its own thread.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Hi Vu.

I clicked the link, as it is time for me to re-order strips. However, the expiration date for the strips being offered is July 2025. That is a little too close for me. In the past I look for an expiration of at least 12 months out, to make sure that I will use all the strips before they expire. Is that listed expiration date accurate?

Edited note: I like to order the 48 count and was looking at those. I see that the 24 count has an Aug 2025 expiration. That will work for me, as I go through at least one per week, sometimes 2. Just ordered the 24 count. Checkout was quick and easy with expected delivery in 2 to 5 days.

Thanks

Something must have happened with the laboratory, here in Greece the expiration dates are 6 months, while last year they were 8-10 months.
My colleague in Europe told me the same thing, so let's be careful.
If someone uses 1 a week and doesn't lose any then it should have at least 6 month expiration dates.

Yes, for the 24 count that is accurate. I like to order the 48 count, as they usually run a little less $ per strip. I edited my post above to note that the expiration on the 24 count box is Aug 2025. That works for me, as I will easily go through the box of 24 in 5 months and also the price only ended up being a few cents more per strip for the 24ct vs the 48ct.

Indeed expiration dates are important to note and the reason why here in Australia I seldom buy more than 24 (did 48 once). I'm one of those who tests weekly but seldom needs more than that. Accordingly I oftten shave close to the use by dates I get

American readers please note this is YYYY-MM-DD

(which is IMO the best date format for technical writing and data processing)
So they were manufactured by Roch on the 2nd of January 2024 and have an expiry of 31st of May 2025. I've never seen a longer expiry period in my experience with them. I work that out to be 1 year, 4 months, 29 days excluding the end date.

I think I've only ever got them where they were one year ahead of time a small handful of times (and that was from the German supplier when I lived in Finland).

I'm unable to find where in the world they are made, but I know that at least this box is Germany too (purchased here in Australia)

Isn't it true that the meter does a check on the quality of the strip before running the test? I know that the machine will recognize expired strips, but "a friend" has been known to set the date back on the meter and it works just fine. Granted, this is only when the strips are within 3 months of the expiration date.

You must really think we're dumb! It would make perfect sense to us that the two digits for the month would come before the two digits for the date, and of course the 4 digits would be the year. The only time dates confuse most of us dumb Americans is when they're written DD MM YYYY.

Hi Chuck,

Yes, the 48ct is 07-2025 and the 24ct is 08-2025. We will be expecting newer dated inventory in the coming months ( likely Jan 2025). Note there is a discount code in use currently.

I have a Coagucheck XS now for 9 years, it is good, but considering to buy the new model "INRANGE" , reason is that it is capable of doing Firmware Updates via USB port , and that could be valuable, i think, and ROCHE is giving $150 discount cupon , called the pharmacy and they told me that to get the discount must bring a prescription, or pay full price with out it.

Roche won't sell to people in the United States - they want us to use anticoagulation services - a big waste of money for those of us who self-test (and many of us who self-manage). It switches the liability to the 'services' and away from them.

I don't know if you can even buy, with a prescription, from medical supply companies.

If your meter is 9 years old, consider that it's probably 'practically new' when compared to the ones in anticoagulation services - which may do 10 or more tests daily, five or more days a week, for 50 or more weeks a year. Your 'old' meter maybe did the equivalent of a year or two (probably less) than one of the 'services.'

As far as firmware upgrades - the ones I saw listed were pretty minor - updates to the user interface or screens and little or nothing to do with the actual tests.

I have a meter that's more than 10 years old, and it still works fine.

I'd keep the 9 year old meter. It will probably keep running accurate tests for many more years.

Although Roche seems to be making it hard for people to buy the original XS (only used on the Grey Market), they're pushing the InRange (you can actually buy them in other countries), they may not be comfortable with making strips that only work with the newer meters. They'll probably get a lot of backlash if they try.
