Is numbness of the feet a sign things are getting worse?

Really not good stuff to post right before I get surgery. HAHAHA
but you're not getting surgery in Florida right?

;-)

But seriously, nobody is going to be "removing" the wrong thing and its normal to get asked who you are and what surgery you are expecting all the way to the surgery door.

You'll be right

Just tape a big note to your chest:
I might go another way

Most of us are no strangers to dark humour. We've most likely cracked a really dark joke at some point that is self-deprecating or makes other people feel uncomfortable. However, dark humour is being used increasingly as a coping tool for difficult situations. These can be anything from relationship breakdowns to mental illnesses. But why do we do this? And does dark humour actually help or hinder us? ...
Brummell admits that dark humour is neither inherently good nor bad - it depends how it is used. "Dark humour is a tool that can be used to great effect while navigating some of the difficult times in our lives.

I know. Them removing the wrong organ is definitely not one of my fears. Not being able to do what I normally do and trusting my wife to handle stuff is. LOL

When my wife's son was getting emergency surgery she was cracking jokes and the nurse took her aside and basically told her that he had a good chance of dying and she needed to be acting appropriately. I wasn't there or I would have told her off. She handles stress with humor and people think it means she doesn't get the seriousness, but she definitely does.

I'd have told her "you do your job, I'll do mine" 😀

I just can't believe that a trauma nurse had never seen someone deal with stress by laughing inappropriately. My wife is very non-confrontational. She just took it and vented about it later. Wait, she still vents about it and it was over 15 years ago. LOL

It’s pretty common for patients to get a marker to actually mark the surgery target to prevent mistakes (right knee vs left knee for example). Or in one case I heard about, to be a wise ass and have his wife write all all over him “if looking here, please flip over … this is not my knee, wtf is wrong with you…. Fix this bendy broken bit… don’t even think about cutting here …”

my lovely wife did this while passing time in ICU before I woke ...
These are seriously funny!

not in the same league but my lovely wife did this while passing time in ICU before I woke ... probably fresh off the slab

I told my wife she is welcome to draw on my toes, but if she video tapes me acting a fool as I'm coming out of anesthesia and posts it on facebook divorce will be on the table. LOL I am not telling my family about my surgery until the night before. I don't want anyone flying in to be there. :p

My wife bought me a new recliner that lifts me from sitting to standing, for the recovery period, so that should be fun. ;)

dump him, don't argue with him.

They exist
So, when I went to that appointment he had no clue my symptoms were worsening, even though I let the nurse know. She just brushed me off. He also stated that in those past two months the amount of really sick people coming in was huge. All that said, my wife is having shoulder issues and needs to see an orthopedist, she got the referral, but when she went to make the appointment found out she can't get in until JANUARY! We are thinking we need to switch medical groups, as this one seems to have huge waits for appointments. I feel like I am in Europe after hearing their stories of waiting so long for appointments. My entire life I have never had this issue. We may switch to the hospital/doctor network that is doing my heart surgery. I got in to see the surgeon I chose in a week and then they scheduled me for surgery for a week after that.

Hope you don't get bumped for surgery -- I just did. National IV bag supply chain issues from Hurricane Helene. No idea when I will be rescheduled.
Oh wow. I hope not either because the surgeon is going to Thailand and won't be available for awhile after next week.... I scheduled this around the election to make sure I could still make it to vote.

What day was your surgery supposed to be again?

If y'all can lend us a few IV bags, that might be better. Does the saline drain in the opposite direction, though ; )

Hospital presidents in town are getting together this week to divvy up what they have, try to make sure emergencies are covered and move forward from there. I'm supposed to hear from my surgeon late this week. Hopefully it will not be too long.
