percantaneous valves

Hello,

Does anyone here know if the idea of being able to percantaneoulsy replace valves in the future applies to tissue valves that have been surgically placed, or just original defective valves in people?

Many of the studies I've read were on patients that are redos, here is one http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/112/8/1189 This study had 59 people and only 3 had their native valve.
I think they probably started w/ people that have already had a few surgeries since their risk of surgery is higher than someone having their first surgery.

ps I wanted to add. Justin has had 5 OHS and got a conduit with a bovine valve in 05. This year he needed his conduit revised, I was talking to one of the doctors at Boston Childrens before we knew if the problem was in his valve or conduit,(he was waiting for his cath) because I wanted to find out where they were on their tissue engineered conduits/valves. It was too early for the TE conduit, but the cardiologist told me IF he needed his valve replaced, he might be a candidate for their clinical trials for the percantaneous valves since he has had multiple surgeries. Since his valve was fine, I didn't find out many of the details Lyn

from a discussion that I had with Dr. Boyd at Cleveland Clinic Florida, it is his opinion that percutanious replacements will be common place within the next 10-12 years.

Thanks, I know I will have a conversation with Dr. Svensson about percutanteous valves and will try to report back here with what I learn. I know they are experimenting, but wonder if they can do it for a second surgery on a person with a surgically placed tissue valve. This is not clear to me.

On the subject of percutaneous valves, has anyone heard or read anything about repair or replacement of the asc aorta done at the same time via robotics? That would be great, but maybe not coming as quickly as just the valve replacement...

the study I gave the link to the most of the patients were tissue valves, only 3 were their own valve being replaced. also when Boston said Justin might be a candidate for their trial that was to replace his bovine valve.

Francie, I've only seen articles on sheep or human cadavers, but to be honest I haven't been following min or robotic as much as precutaneous replacements or Tissue engineered Conduits/valves since they are my hope for Justin.
