Surgery date

Well, I FINALLY have a surgery date! I fell like I've been meeting with the Dr. and it seems like forever, but I finally have a date set for Friday, August 4th. Yeah!

It's been so hot here (okay, I know that most of you will laugh at what I think is hot now, so I won't tell you), but we don't have AC here and I've been miserable! I almost can't wait to be admitted just for AC!

I know a lot of people have had their surgery lately and more are coming up. It's been hard to respond to everyone - my emotions have been all over the place and I feel like I can barely concentrate. I have been reading everyone's progress and I'm so glad to hear many people are doing well. Chris, I hope you start feeling better soon.

Anyway, I am cheerful so far and glad I have the week to prepare - as I could barely do a thing before I knew when surgery would be. It's a bit depressing not feeling like doing anything and not knowing when it will be fixed.

So, unless I get bumped, the 4th is my big day. My new heart life day.

The first thing to know is that you are GOING TO BE OKAY! So...just breathe, and enjoy life between now and then. I will send some really good prayers and vibes your way.

I put you on the calendar. Yes, take the time you have and make the most of it by pampering yourself silly. Do things that you would like to do, but haven't and enjoy as much as possible. It's an early reward for the hard work you'll be doing recovering. A/C will feel nice, but not right away. I remember having them crank mine up to max and was still sweating to beat the band.

I am so glad that you have a date now. This week will go by fast. We will both be in around the same time so I won't be able to follow yourprogress, but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thankfully it is finally starting to cool down a little. We thought our AC was broken last week, but it turns out it was just to hot and the AC is to small a unit. Well I know we will both do well and be talking about our experience before long.

Great news that you now know the day that you will begin your new life. Make sure this next week is just for you and your family. Pamper yourself, have that extra ice cream, sleep in, stay up late.
If you feel you must do something to get ready, lay in a lot of easy to prepare meals and disposable dinnerware. Make sure you have set up a cozy corner for you to hang out for the first couple of weeks. A recliner, close to the bathroom, is a great thing to have.
The week will go fast and you will soon be on this side of the mountain.

Congrats, Kim! A week is nice - enough time to prepare, not too much to fret.

You Californians have really had a bad time of it this summer. Hope the heat breaks by the time you're out of the hospital.

Go to the movies a lot - it's usually icey in there.

So glad that you have a date, now you can focus on preparing. The week before my surgery was such precious time - I felt so acutely aware of everything and everyone in my life that I valued. I felt so fortunate to be alive here on planet earth and so determined to continue to be here. And the day before surgery, a quiet excitement that my heart would be fixed and I could lead a normal life again. And of course in the midst of those peaceful moments were the moments of fear and panic - such an intense time!

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers on Friday as you make the trek over the mountain. Everything is going to go great!

Thanks for the well-wishes...I AM feeling quite a bit better. One baby aspirin a day and suddenly my migraines and TIA-like auras are gone? Hrm. Seems odd but that's what seems to have happened.

I will say this - I'm tired, weak and still in some discomfort but I already can tell this surgery has made a huge difference for me, for the better. My circulation seems better, even though my blood pressure is much lower than prior to the surgery.

It will be hard at first (though, yes, the a/c is nice, and I enjoyed that in hospital as well....) but you'll get through it and you'll come out better. I am glad I took the time to spend time with family prior to my surgery, because I certainly could not have done that (miniature golf, eating out, walking all over the place, etc.) in these days following the surgery.
