I think I caught my granddaughter's cold, so I went to Walgreens and bought some Zicam. This stuff really seems to work for me in preventing colds from getting full-blown, so I thought I'd pass that info along. Walgreens has a sale on the Lemon/Lime Quick Desolve Zicam boxes of 25 - buy one at 10.99 and get one free. It's just the Lemon/Lime flavor (must be the least popular) but it doesn't taste bad.

This is the first time I've used the disolving tabs. I usually get the nasal swabs. Hope this works as well.

Is this like Thera-Flu; a mixture of several meds? I have used this and
it helps me. I get flus and colds every year whether I get a flu shot or
not.
Dina:)

Zicam works for me too. Everything is usually gone by the next day or day and a half, if I catch it before it goes too far. I start it at the first sign of a little scratchy throat.

Zicam is zinc, just basically one ingredient. The most common form is the nasal swabs or spray - I think the delivery is fast. That's why I'm wondering how the Quick Desolve is going to work.

Sounds MUCH healthier than Thera Flu with it's 10 ingredients! I mean, no
wonder it works:rolleyes:
I will look for it ,for I am sure I will be needing it.
Thanks:)

Or at least with Thera Flu you don't wake up until after you're sick. :D

daughter and I each have a pkg of swabs and use them when needed. I didn't realize it was zinc, but no wonder it works. We also have zinc lozenges on hand.

So, one can really take zinc while on warfarin?
I swear on using zinc, but thought I could no longer use it because I'm mechanical.

Karlynn,

I greatly respect the information you provide, and I have no contrary experience with Zicam. In fact, I had never heard of it until reading your post. But from some googling, let me suggest caution, esp based on this Consumer Reports analysis. (CR is, of course, a well-respected journal.):

It may be helpful for some folks, but possibly not so for others. It apparently does not have FDA approval.

Thanks Bob - I appreciate the heads up. But my sense of smell is pretty bad already! All those Vicks Vapor Rub steams that my Mom used on us kids for every illness known to man. She'd even have us swab it inside our noses. :D

Thankfully, I don't get to many colds. The DH gets 'em more than I do. I attribute it to taking a good multivitamin and drinking lots of liquids.
