Can anyone tell me about z scores for aortic root size? My daughter's paediatric cardiologist focuses in on these a lot. I know that they relate to how far her root measurement deviates from the average for her height and weight (body surface area).
Two years ago, her sinus measurement was 28 mm, with a z score of 2.35, and her annulus was 21 mm with a z score of 2.43. He said these fell out of the normal range, but didn't start her on medication. He said medication would be needed soon.
What is a normal z score, how are they calculated, and are there protocols for intervention based on z scores for children? She's due for a routine check up in August, and I think she will either start medication or join a randomised control trial for losartan.
