I know my 13 year old granddaughter is addicted. Her and a friend were at the house for Easter and sitting next to each other on the couch.They were text messaging each other. I said DUH you do know you are sitting next to each other and can speak to each other in person. Between MySpace and text messaging I am surprised she keeps her grades up at school and plays basketball for church and school.

Myself I work with computers and technology all day. I don't even like talking on the cell phone after work and I never text.

For right now I refuse to send or receive text messages...turned it off on my phone...email, pm or call me...if the phone is already in your hand call....if you are where you can't talk you should probably be doing something else anyway

I think most ppl can use these conveniences wisely and productively, others just don't have anything else to do. I've always made sure that dinner time is not interrupted by any msgs or internet, etc.

Does spending three hours on the computer changing addresses on magazines, newspapers, etc. in preparation for our move North, rather than using the telephone count- than I'm a junkie. Most times, I would much rather use my computer to shop or take care of business then face talking to a real person or even worse an automated voice on the phone. Guilty as charged! On the other hand, I don't text message and rarely turn my cell phone on except to call long distance.

Heck got my license plates renewed over the web, got those new speakers from Walmart on line, banking, etc, pay cable bill etc.

I get my school email online, I pay bills online, and I chat.. I am absolutely fascinated by computers so I am on them whether or not I am online anyway...I guess I am addicted....

As far as texting.....I am definitely not addicted...in fact, I dispise accessing the web on a cell phone simply because I can't read the screen, not to mention the fact that I have a cellphone for one purpose only....Emergencies that may happen due to my health or if I break down for some reason between home and school. (I commute 45 minutes to my college). Harrybaby

I think we can use these new forms of technology responsibly. Heck, was passing notes in grade school a disorder in the old days? No.

Now, somebody (and I know folks like this, fess up anyone out there) who gets up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and "has" to check their email before getting back in bed is probably addicted.

Oh, and I'm with you Bina about dinnertime, but, I confess, I do text my kids to come down to dinner!

My middle-son is totally addicted to his computer and can spend all night chatting and playing WOW with his school-friends online. Its only when I threaten to pull the internet cable out that they do some homework. The computer/internet is quite handy for them to be able to work together to help eachother or figure out some physics problem etc. If we ever have a question we cant answer or a dispute its so easy to just "google' the answer...I remember day-dreaming about the day we could type a question into a machine and get the answer!?

I suppose its not that different to when I was their age and spent ages each evening on the phone to friends. At least with broadband he isnt tying up the phone-line.

Our family would be totally lost without our computers so I guess we are addicted & dependant.

I recently hired a lawyer out of state for some complicated work. After retaining her office I discovered she did not have e-mail after it was too late to go somewhere else. She did an excellent job, but I would never retain her for additional work.

To me, being limited to telephones and answering machines is a nightmare. The telephone works well if you are both ready to address the problem at the same moment in time. That is often a problem for me, as I like to spend my days out in the canyons and mountains where there is no cell service. When I come back at night, offices are closed. In addition, I find I can communicate more accurately and efficiently by e-mail. If I wonder whether I included an important fact, or remember exactly what was said, e-mail is much more efficient. Finally, e-mail is easily organized when it comes time to state a case or make a presentation. As you can see, I love e-mail. I only wish I could type 90 words a minute, like some people I have known.

Agree 100%....I found out a long time ago that most people will leave you alone if they think you're nuts
