I've had a heart murmur all my life, however nothing much was ever said or investigated.
A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with an echo with a severe aortic bicuspid valve stenosis along with the root being slightly dialated. I think there is enough dialation to be addressed along with the valve April 6th when I'm scheduled for surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. I'm still not real sure whether to prefer tissue or mechanical. Actually I'm still in denial about the surgery. Did anybody else have a hard time picking a surgeon?
They all look good on paper! and I'm sure they are. I chose Dr Gosta Pettersson because he does both the on-x valve & tissue replacement valves and is part of a study for reduced meds. I like the idea of a "permanent" fix by mechanical, & I looked into joining the study for low dose or no dose of coumedin. However (this is gonna be painfull to say) I have vascular issues like hemoroids. There I said it...
Anyways I'm probably gonna still just listen to you for a while til I get my bearings!

Hi and Welcome aboard!
Dr. Pettersson is the best, but I'm biased. He will listen to your concerns and based on those and your medical history he will suggest the best valve to meet your needs. Otherwise you have time to "get your ducks in a row".
Best,
John
