Congratulations to Clare and Rebel Raider.

Horse racing is one of the few sports in which a woman can compete with a man and be about the same size as he is. ;) This is not meant as a joke about short men; I don't exactly qualify as a jockey, but I'm nowhere near tall. Just having fun.

Seriously though, I'm happy for her; I'm sure she's on cloud nine.

Women racing horses, cars, playing high school, college, professional sports ? what is this world coming too? Glad you asked because I will be glad to tell you ? I have known for some time that the ?weaker sex? is indeed the stronger ? I have had the opportunity to work side by side in the field of engineering with some truly (scary) amazing women ? in the automotive field with some that were nothing less than phenomenal producers ? community forums where they were the driving force in getting it done ?.not to mention that I have been married to one for nearly twenty six years who is smarter, wiser and a much better human being that her Chimp?. I shudder to think where I would be without her?.

Any man that discounts the ability of a woman because she is a woman is, well, has already proven my statements?. Ladies, always be proud ?..

And I for one am truly grateful for beach volleyball?..;):p

I re-read my post and I hope that it doesn't sound belittling. I don't want to "open mouth, insert foot." I'm with Cooker. I would also be in serious trouble without my wife; I would never remember another thing for the rest of my life.
Once again, hurray for Clare & Rebel Raider! I will read this story to my wife when she returns home from, yet again, visiting grandchildren in Georgia; she'll love it.

She's my pick for the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday riding Moatize. Of course, I also have to go for the jockey riding Littorio who shares his name with my favourite writer of all time: Steven King! :)

And speaking of chicks that can do anything, did you know that in the mining industry over here, they prefer to employ female truck drivers (you know those massively huge trucks that cart the ore) because they are more careful and reliable than the blokes! :D

Watch out boys..!!!! :p

A : )

Speaking of girls can do anything........

When my husband and I got married in 1980, he was working as an independent truck driver. Back then, you didn't need to have your CDL driver's license; a Class 8 driver's license and driving lessons would do. So, I decided to give it a try and went "trucking" with him.

The truck my hubby had was a PeterBilt w/a rather large sleeper berth so we would take turns driving --- 8 hrs ON & 8 hrs OFF. Unfortunately, it (the truck) was not equipped with automatic gears so I had to learn to shift all 13 gears by watching the RPM'S! My handle was "widow maker" & his was "widow taker".

I worked with him for 2 years driving that truck. We would pick up fresh produce in northern California & deliver it every week to the French Quarter in New Orleans. Then, we would load up with frozen chickens & deliver those to AZ or California & wait for our next load out. I learned how to drive thru sleet, rain, ice, you name it, I did it!

So, yes, girls can do just about anything if they put their mind to it!!!
:)

I'm with Cooker in both belief and respect factors, and I don't say it just to please all you girls I'm smitten with! Heck, I was just commenting to some friends how amazed I am that my mother survived having five sons, let alone being a tremendous success in her careers! Norma, you definitely rock! I don't have a link, but you can check out Ellen MacArthur(?) too. She sailed around the world alone a few years ago, and beat the boys!

Yes, I definitely was able to see a lot of country and I'm glad I had the opportunity to do that for a while.

I remember one time, my hubby and I got into some kind of agrument & we stopped talking to each other on one of our trips. The sleeper berth had a little curtain in front for privacy. So, Bill was driving & I was in the sleeper berth & he pulled in to a truck stop to fuel, bathroom break & to get some snacks. Well, when he was in the truck stop, I got down & went to the bathroom, went into the curio store & piddled around. Meanwhile, my husband has paid for the fuel, gotten the snacks & gets in the truck & drives off. And since we weren't talking to each other, he figured I was in the sleeper berth!!! WRONG!!!

He drives off, and about 5 miles down the road, another trucker calls him on the radio & says, "ah buddy, I think you forgot something at that truck stop!"
"There's a pretty upset lady waitin for you back there!" :):p

Needless to say, I was not a happy camper when he came back to pick me up! :( But I learned a lesson ---- from then on, I always made sure he knew when I got down from the truck!!!
