I am scheduled for pre-surgery tests tomorrow and was wondering if it would be o.k. to take a xanex before the tests or if it might effect them in any way. I have never taken any meds of this sort before, and when I read the precautions they only made me more anxious because they said something about "call your doctor if you experience rapid irregular heartbeat..."
Hmm... this is exactly what I'm trying to prevent. Right now I think I'll just try to get by without. Any thoughts?

Elphi-

Although it is after hours you can call your Doctor's number and that should connect you with the Academy of Medicine. They will put you in touch with whoever is on call.

If that doesn't work you might try Ask-A-Nurse at Toledo Hospital (even if you are a patient elsewhere) and get information. I'm not sure if they are still in operation, I haven't used the service for about 10 years. The hospital's general # is 419-291-4000.

I hope that your tests go well. Has surgery been scheduled yet?

just got back from pre-testing. I decided to just forget the xanex and I did o.k. I was a little shaky and lightheaded but I didn't pass out as has been known to happen. My surgery is scheduled for this thursday the 11th. (unless I run away-lol)

Good for you!

My aunt called me the day before surgery and said that she had a dream in which I left town and refused to go through with the surgery. I told her it had crossed my mind!

I'm sure you have read other people's posts in which they described their anxiety prior to surgery. My suggestion would be to keep very busy. Hopefully you will find time to do something entertaining.

Elphie,

I assume you haven't left town. :) I remembered that you are going for surgery the 11th. I just wanted you to know that there is someone in this corner of the state praying for you.

No Kathy- I haven't left town (yet), and yes I've been keeping really busy working, visiting friends and cleaning the house like a crazy woman, but all I can think about now is "one more day before surgery..." Yikes! Anyway thanks to my fellow Ohioans for thinking of me.

Hey Elphie,
There is someone in Colorado thinking of you also. Best of luck with your surgery. Soon you will be on the other side of the mountain.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Take Care

Dave

We can all relate to that.

I spent the week before surgery on July 9 organizing everything. I purchased and packed away most of the things that my daughter would need for camp during the first week of August. I spent all of July 5 writing two weeks of lesson plans for the sub that would be taking my class in September. I was really glad those tasks were done when I returned home. I had neither the energy nor the inclination to do those sorts of things.

If you are interested in Cardiac Rehab after surgery they have programs at Toledo Hospital, St. V's, and St. Luke's. I never checked Flower. I went to St. Luke's. The nursing staff was great.

I hope all goes smoothly for you. Many prayers will be sent your way.

Hi Elphie-

I want to wish youall the best for your surgery. It'll be the birthday for your shiny new fixed up heart.

We'll all be waiting to hear how things went. Talk to you later.

Best of luck tomorrow

Best of luck tomorrow

Many of us had a deep calm come over us shortly prior to surgery. It's quite welcome and peaceful after the fear and hysteria preceding it.

May your mountain be a molehill and the truck miss you entirely. My prayers and thoughts go with you tomorrow. Please have someone post so we know things are OK.

Bless you.
