:( Hi All, My Husband Had His Angiogram Done About 3 Weeks Ago And Doctors Said They Would Call Us To Set An Appointment Date For Surgery, Today He Got A Call From His Regular Cardiologist And Told Him That He Needs A Dental Clearance Before They Can Schedule Him For Surgery. My Concern Is That My Husband Has Been Feeling Weak Lately, He Even Got Out Of Work Early Today And He Never, Ever Does That, I'm Afraid That As More Time Passes He Could Get Worse And Things Can Get More Complicated. He Has Dentist Appointment Tomorrow. Just Needed To Vent. Thank You, Veronica.

hang in there, it's coming. Get that clearance tomorrow and inform his Cardiologist of your concerns. I'm sure they can pick up the pace.

They just want to make sure that there aren't any dental problems which could cause an infection. Infected teeth can sometimes do harm to the cardiac system. It's a good precaution.

Surgery will be coming along very soon. Most people who are heading towards surgery will not be feeling very well. I know my husband was feeling terrible prior to his surgeries.

So hang tough.

A dental clearance just means that he needs to have a dental check up to make sure that he's not approaching any need for root canal, or other dental procedure. It's a standard request.

Get him into the dentist and then let your cardio know that he's feeling more symptomatic.

best wishes

It's ok

It's ok

Don't panic, like Karlynn said, it's a standard request. It really is for his safety to avoid infection. Remember "this too shall pass". The weeks leading up to surgery is very stressful because your entering unknown territory. Even if you or he has been through surgery before, it's still nerve racking. Your hubby will feel so much better afterward and will regain his strength. Hang in there. The pre-op red tape is almost over. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.

Very good of his doctor to have this done now. This subject comes up often in VR so not to worry that it's unusual.

You WILL make it through this week, but it is a stressful time. Come in and vent - we are here 24/7 to reassure and support. Somebody is always awake and waiting for you. We will walk all the way with you until you feel safe. Blessins......

Thank You All Soooo Much!!!!

Thank You All Soooo Much!!!!

You all are great, and I thank god for letting me find this site. I think my husband is maybe a little scared and that's why he doesn't get on this site, but I tell him alot about it and he is very thankful also for all of your support.

Dental clearance is a good thing.

Dental clearance is a good thing.

Hi, My husband has his OHS in Oct of last year. He went to the dentist about a month before his surgery to get a loose cap fixed because he didn't want to take a chance of it coming off during his surgery. A few days later his mouth started to swell and was causing him extreme pain. Turns out the dentist who did the cap originally did a very bad job and it had been infected for a very long time. Since it had come loose the infection was able to contstantly drain so there was no swelling or pain. So our new dentist had to re-do the root canal and put a new cap on after all the infection was gone. We were kind of in shock over it all when we starting thing about what might have happened if he would have had that infection in his body when he went in for surgery. I know it is all scary but just be glad that the doctors are checking everything before hand. It could help to prevent a very bad thing from happening later.

If your husband doesn't feel comfortable reading the threads on here prior to surgery, maybe he will feel more like visiting once he is on the other side of the mountain. It will be less intimidating then. The information you can find on here is so helpful but at the same time finding out about some things can scare you even more. Please vent when ever you need to.

I will keep you and your husband in my prayers.

Hi Veronica

It's a wise thing to have a dental pre surgery---when Tyce had to have it, my first thought was "how ridiculous!!!" I now know differently!!

I have to tell you honestly, that the weeks pre surgery are MUCH more scary than the post op phase. Everyone here knows how you are both feeling. You WILL get through it. Please tell your hubs to rest and just do what he feels like doing....

Don't worry about him not reading the posts here....I'm sure he's scared. My husband doesn't go on the site, either, but he did check the posts on occasions.

I will put you both in my prayers......you will get through this!!!

Veronica,

I knew about my impending surgery for many years, but it still felt like someone knocked the wind out of me when I heard it was actually time. It felt like I had the flu while I worked through it in my mind.

Weak and worried are very natural reactions, but if you feel it is something really out of the ordinary get your cardiologist on the horn to be safe.

The dentist, as people have mentioned, is very standard procedure and my surgeon would not touch me without that clearance. Also, there are a few drugs that he should not be taking as surgery approaches ( you should have been provided a list).......most should be stopped within a couple weeks of surgery except for coumadin.

Vero1,
If your husband is only a "litttle scared", then he is a lot braver than most
on this site. I been through it before and it scares the hell out of me! Tell him to join us. Everything will be alright!
