Hi all, on Monday I took my seven year-old daughter Bruna to the doctor's for her usual check up and her doctor said she found a murmur which she thinks is probably nothing serious, and should disappear by itself with time. However, she asked for an echo claiming that the noise the valve is making might turn out to be mitral valve prolapse. I'm taking her to my cardio's a week from today for the echo and a consultation on the same day since he's the one who does the exam. I'll also take my chance to get my own valve checked. Bruna's a healthy child and until now has never shown any signs of any heart issues. I'd like you to say a little prayer for her and if you have any comments, I'd also like to hear them. Thanks for reading.

Debora, how upsetting for you. Take it a step at a time. If it is a murmer, or mitral prolaps, know that there are a lot of people living with it that have never had to do anything more than take antibiotics before dental work. My sister is turning 50 and has MVP with no issues.

You all will be in my prayers.

Thank you!

Thank you!

Hi Karlynn and thanks for your words of encouragement! It's still a week until I finally find out what it is, but I really do hope it turns out to be nothing. I hope you're doing well yourself and your sister too. Take care!

I sure hope she is ok, please let me know.
Wasnt your mv damage from rheumatic fever? If it was then I doubt that its inherited, but not sure.
If it ease's your mind ..a lot of young ladys get mvp without ever having any real problems.
But it is always the best to have her checked when the history is there.
Praying for her, and will until you have an answer, love Yaps

I know how you feel!

I know how you feel!

Debora!
I can certainly relate. My oldest, who is 6, has a very very tiny ASD with mild pulmonary stenosis. As she has gotten older it has gotten better. Her cardio says that it will never completely go away but should never effect her daily life at all. She has no limitations.
The waiting to hear is about the worst there is. You feel helpless until then. One thing to remember is that many many people have mitral valve prolapse. I know quite a few that have it and all they need to do is take antibiotics for dental procedures. I pray that everything will be just fine with your daughter. I have a feeling things will be ok.

Take care and keep us informed.

Gail

A little more confident!

A little more confident!

Yaps Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I had rheumatic fever but when the doctor got in there, he also fixed a lesion on my tricuspid valve that I assume had been there before I got sick. Or could it have been that it was caused by the strain on my very enlarged heart? To be honest with you, I've never found out the whole story regarding my heart issue. By the way, how's your husband doing? Has he been to the doctor's yet? I hope he's feeling better by now and you, a bit more relieved! I'll sure keep you posted!

Gail First of all, sorry to hear about your daughter's heart, but I'm happy that it's nothing to worry about and she's able to lead a normal life. You know how our minds wander, I mean, we feel positive one minute and worried the next. I'm just glad I'm going to get this sorted out within a few days. Anyway, as you've said, even if it is mitral valve prolapse, it's something simple and nothing to get worked up about. Thank you so much for your post too. I'll let you all know how she is as soon as I come back from the doctor's next week.

If its mvp

If its mvp

she will need the standard antibiotics before procedures..etc..
Thankyou for asking about John, it is cancer, and they are trying to get him in soon, holidays coming do not help, many drs are over whelmed as this is a tourist town, many are seeing drs before Christmas vacations.
How is m'lady?
Love yaps

Debora,

I understand your concern. Our daughter's primary care physician told us that our daughter (then age 10) had mitral valve prolapse. His nurse was immediately on the phone to make appt with pediatric cardio that same day. It was fortunate that the pediatric cardio could see her that day -- I didn't have time to worry.

Debora, I'll be hoping that your daughter's murmer is nothing serious. At least she has a mum who is educated about these things and has taken the right steps. You'll know more soon enough.... not knowing is definitely the worst.

Wishing you both the best,
Anna : )

Believe me, I know how anxious you feel.........

Believe me, I know how anxious you feel.........

 I will be hoping and praying that your worrying is all for nothing. Please try not to upset yourself too much, though. As the others have mentioned, if it is MVP, and God forbid that it is, then it could just be a very minor issue. YOu both will be in our prayers and please update when you find out something. Sending hugs.

Thank you!

Thank you!

It's so nice having all of you to rely on for emotional support! I took Bruna to do a blood test this morning just to be on the safe side. She cried a little but not as much as I thought she would. Anyway, I'll be getting the result by Friday next week and then I'll arrange to take her back to her pediatrician. By then, both of us will have been to see the cardio and hopefully everything will be just fine. I'm trying to keep myself busy in order not to think of it too much. I'll let you all know as soon as I have more news.

Hi, Debora. My murmur was found when I was a young child so my mom would certainly identify with you. Please keep us informed, and I will keep her in my thoughts.

It shouldn't be long now!

It shouldn't be long now!

Thank you too, Sherry and Erica for your concern. It's Saturday already so, it won't be long until I finally find out what's going on and hopefully, both Bruna and myself will come out of the cardio's office with the biggest Christmas present of all, our health! Keep the prayers going for us!

It is so much harder to handle any problem that involves our children. I'd rather go things a dozen times over than see one of my children suffer through something. Yet it is those very things that mold and shape them into the people that they are to become. Debora, you will be there to teach and support her regardless of what the diagnosis is. Hopefully, the result will be like a Christmas present but if it isn't, then you have all the experience in the world to walk her through this. My love and prayers are with you. Hopefully I'll see you on chat tomorrow.
