Had my aortic valve replaced Monday morning at roughly 8:30 am and it went very well according to my surgeon it took around 3 - 3 1/2 hours. She performed a mini-sternotomy on me and my scar is roughly 4-5 inches not sure how she did it but she said she didnt even have to spread my ribs. I rcvd a 23 mm St Jude Medical Master's HP conduit medical prothesis. She also said she replaced my aorta up to the 1st bend roughly. I was amazed at how I felt after they moved me out of ccicu. It was more soreness than pain. Dont get me wrong it was and is very uncomfortable, but I can lift my arms over head and taking a shower is no problem. What also amazes me is that there is do dressing on my scar and they just told me to shower with mild soap and dab dry. My co-workers were amazed that they let me go home on the 3rd day POD. Thnaks for all your help and if anyone wants to know about my surgery or recovery please contact me. I am tommyt_51 on Yahoo IM.
