got prescription from family physician today for home test machine, still have a hoop or two to go through to actually get it, but I think that's the biggest hurdle over ... He has also agreed to monitor my dosage.

You may be aware that I am haaving a hard time with my clinic people, well, my Dr. told me today with a mechanical AVR I should be between 2.5 and 3.5; I tested Tuesday, got 2.1 and they wanted to DECREASE my dosage - Dr. told me I could call them, quote him, and TELL them that his recommendation (and that I was following it) was to INCREASE - it felt SOOOOOO good leaving that message, I can tell you ..

Why can't we self-monitor - if diabetics can do it (and insulin CAN kill !), why can't we?? sorry, that's a subject for another soapbox . . .

Happy, happy, happy me . . . . . I am wandering around singing "all I am getting for Christmas is a Coaguchek XS ...":D :D and control of my INR !!

Isn't it amazing how excited we get to be able to torture our fingertips?;) :D

I got my INRatio around Christmas time a couple of years ago and decided it was one of the best "gifts" I ever received.

Hope the rest of the process is simple for you.

Congratulations!

What I would suggest to you is to get a copy of Al Lodwick's chart on warfarin dose adjustments and bring it to your PCP and see if the two of you can agree on it as being appropriate for you. That way your doctor will still be managing your dosage by having a protocol for you to use. If you have the understanding that if you run into a problem then you would call him but for routine adjustments you could handle it according to the chart.

warfarinfo.com is the link or go to our reference section and I think there is a link.

That's great!

I got my Coaguchek XS yesterday :D . Did a training test and came out at 2.8; right in the range I've been for the last 2 months (2.3 to 2.8). Very simple and only took a very small drop of blood.

QAS hand carried it to my house and also gave me 4 boxes of test strips; 6 strips in each box. So, I'm good to go.

Good luck, ........you'll love the machine.

Congratulations! I'm glad your family physician partners with you rather than dictates as some tend to do! :)

That is great news!!!!
I also work with my GP on ACT decisions and dosing...he has seen me in range for the past 18 months and trusts me.... just as I trust him. It is a great feeling.:)
