Finally, after months of battling high INR, I am at a very respectable 3.1! Yea! I guess I was right about going back to work helping to get myself back to regulated. I've only been back for 3 days (and the students start tomorrow), but it seems to have done the trick. Yippy for me! :D

Hey Niki - Glad you finally got regulated kiddo. You must have gotten some of that left handed Coumadin they make special for you Dextocardia types ! Chris

Hee, hee. Maybe so... Maybe that was what I was doing wrong all along...

It's funny, though. You wouldn't think my INR was right on target if you were to look at my legs. They are COVERED in bruises. Has something to do with the massive furniture moving I did this week at school. My husband is afraid people are going to start accusing him of beating me. ;) At least I don't wear shorts to school...

I'm a beaten spouse also! We really need to do something about this. Just the littlest things cause these bruises.

I forgot to tell you my magic secret-When I PM you with a good morning, it automatically regulates your INR. Nifty huh? :D

Ditto on the 'battered looking syndrome:eek:

Summer is the time for regulation to go out the window as well as briusing. Let's face it....we are all more active during that time.

Niki, glad you have a handle on it. You will be fine through the winter... you may find yourself back in the same boat come next summer. Have been going around and around with this issue for almost five years. Never fails....every summer it's a coaster ride. Can only enjoy it while we can.

All the best!

HI,

I am glad you are finally within range! Dealing with my Coumadin has been the biggest struggle I face after surgery. It is hardly ever consistent for more that 6-8 weeks. Right now I am dealing with an INR that is way too high.

I too, am a teacher and the first day of school is tomorrow!! Funny, I have those same bruises from furniture and desk moving!! Where are those custodians when we need them? Hope you have a good school year!

Well, Ross, if you're the reason for my wonderful INR reading, you'd better be up in the morning to say hello. :) I'll try not to be too grouchy ;) .

Kim, I hope your school year gets off to a good start tomorrow. What do you teach? What grade level? I am a middle school theatre teacher. I know, I know... teaching drama to middle school students it a bit redundant, but I like it (most of the time). About 40 of my students are ones I've had before, but I'll have 100 new ones! It's my biggest group of Theatre I students yet (split between 5 classes, of course). I have no idea what I did to generate such interest, but I'm hoping I can keep doing it. ;)

Thanks everyone for being excited about my INR reading with me. I just love you guys. There's no way I could go to one of my friends and say "Woo hoo! My INR is 3.1!" and have it mean a darn thing to them...

It's sort of like walking up to a stranger and saying, "Hi, I lowered my cholesterol" isn't it? :p

Hee hee! Ross, you always crack me up. I love coming here and seeing what you will say next. :D

Ross, send the good morning PM message right on!!! I am going on Wednesday for my next protime!!! Hope it helps!

Niki,
I teach special education in an elementary school. I concentrate on kindergarten through 2nd grade. We try to do inclusionary instruction (in the student's classroom), and I work with all students....at risk, behavior disorder, LD. and mentally retarded. It is interesting to see the diversity a classroom teacher can have!! I enjoy the kids, NOT the paperwork!!! Today we had 105 degree temps to deal with on the playground, fortunately we air-conditioned schools. Let's see, how many contract days are left?!?!?!

Wow, I have to admire you! I know your job is tough. My college roomie is special ed (severe profound) at the elementary level. I know it takes a very special person to handle the daily stress of that job.

I'm not sure how many more contract days there are (too depressing) but my mom enjoyed pointing out to me (because she is only 5 years from retirement) that I have 26 years before I can retire! Yikes! I am not sure I'll last that long. I admire those who can make it to retirement, but I don't know that I will be one of them. Especially with this "bum ticker" of mine...

I am exhausted after today. Having a second period conference time, then going 6 more classes without a break (except the measly 20 minute lunch), is tiring. I'm sure I'll get into the routine sooner or later. I just hope it's not too much later! ;)

Niki - What do you do if you really get bummed out and need a 20 minute nap or something. Can you call the principle and go ZZZ somewhere? Heck, I get a little nervous going to Walmart knowing that I could get tired or dizzy way down in the lingerie isle !! Chris

Actually, there have been some days that I turn out all the lights except one lamp in my room and it is a signal to my students that I have a headache (even if I don't) so we need to do "quiet" things that day. Once I even changed up some of my lessons to incorporate the movie "Oklahoma" just because it was one I found at the library (pretty easy to do as a Theatre teacher). Students never knew it wasn't in the plan. Fortunately, most of the time I'm in high gear all day and don't realize how tired I am until I stop. First days are always the worst, though, because I have to do a LOT more talking than usual. For example, tomorrow, we'll be playing the "name game" and doing a scavenger hunt to learn more about our classmates. All I have to do is give the instructions at the beginning, then off we go! I can sit back and watch if I need to, or I can walk around and check everyone's progress. Having dealt with this all my life I have found ways to (discretely) take it easy when I need to. The kids don't even catch on that one week I'm walking around to help them out, and the next I make them come to me.

Niki - That's pretty neat. Wish I'd had you as one of my teachers years ago. Hope you have a whole bag full of those "quiet time" routines to get you thru at least the next several months. My oldest daughter is an early childhood ed grad and manages a room full of three year olds in Austin. I always enjoy visiting the class room when I am down there and never cease to amaze at how fast the little ones pick up on stuff. You teachers are something else and I wish you all the best. Chris

I too am an elementary teacher. There sure are a lot of us. I wonder if our heart problems are a result of chasing kids around all day! HaHa! I have been back to school since 7/31. The kids came back a week ago Monday. I have been in bed by 8:00 for the last two weeks. I am not as young as I used to be. Have a great school year!!
