the anxious mom is still anxious at times but I am at cleveland clinic where my son (age 35) had his mitral valve REPAIRED by Dr. Cosgrove on thursday 4/20. The repair took about 90 minutes. He also patched the hole that was there at birth and never closed. It is day 3 and James is already putting a tee shirt on and walking the halls easily. On the humerous side, when I received the call from Dr. Cosgrove that the repair was finished, I said that I was surprised that it hadn't taken a longer time. His response was " I am so sorry about that".
If we had had the surgery in our state, the incision would have been the standard 12 inch. Also, in our state, it would have undoubtedly been a replacement since that is standard. I will not be a stranger to this site as the years go by but I have been so blessed to have found this site and hear all of the information provided by the other members. May God bless you all.

Wonderful news, please give him our best wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Thanks for sharing your good news. I hope everything continues on this upward trend.

Such great news - that

Such great news - that

Dr. Cosgrove is a regular standup comedian. :) When he came into the operating theater (he did my mitral valve repair November 2003), I had tears rolling down my cheeks - I apologized and he said, "That's all right, I make all the girls cry." :) Then he said, "We're gonna take good care of you" and the next thing I remember I was waking up in the ICU.

Dr. Cosgrove has been given a God-given talent and he is using it well.

I think your son is going to be just fine. God bless -

What a wonderful outcome! A highly skilled surgeon and a good sense of humor, too...can't ask for more than that! Congratulations. May his recovery be as smooth.

I"m so glad that James was able to have his valve repaired, and I hope that he continues to have a smooth ride on the road to recovery.:)

That is excellent news! I hope James' recovery continues to excel. I have just been the patient (2 days before James) and watched my sweet husband go through such concern and emotional tension. I cannot even imagine being the parent!! I hope you will be able to enjoy some well deserved relief now.

Best wishes to James!! Hooray!!
