This is probably a lame question, but I was told not to shave with my razor anymore. I purchased a women's shaver - and it does a lousy job. Any favorites out there, or something that will help? Under the arms is the worst!

My husband still uses his regular razor. But then, he still uses a chainsaw and hunts and fishes and builds decks on our house.

Pattie, Honestly you can use a razor for shaving! LOL I used mine just last week and sure enough I cut myself on back side of ankle area But guess What It didnt bleed any more than it did before my heart surgery and having to take coumadin! Some of the things we are told are truly silly and down right scary if You believe them. Use your razor as you always have and just be aware if you cut yourself - also get one of the "stop bleeding sticks/pencils" that are just used for shaving!

Patty,
This is one of those things that belong on the "dumb things I am told about coumadin list", which is long indeed. :D  ;)
I use a twin blade regular razor for underarms and a man's (my own not my SO's;) ) Remington electric for my legs (because I like it better than dealing with blades and shave lotion). Women's electric razors are useless as you have found out.

Oh man, this is such an easy question. Your husbands, of course!

Patty, better head over to www.warfarinfo.com and dispell a whole bunch of bull that you've heard or going to hear. The razor thing is one of the oldest ones.

For Almost 5 years now, I've knicked myself silly with a razor and have yet to bleed to death. I simply cannot shave without knicking myself 2 or 3 times. It's just not in my creed.

I agree...this is one of those Coumadin myths. I've used a regular razor for the last 25 years on Coumadin, and I'm still here to talk about it. Just a couple of years ago, I was in the hospital and a nurse told me never to use a razor while using Coumadin. I waited until her back was turned to "roll my eyes". I was afraid if I tried to reason with her, I'd start laughing, so I just said OK and that was that. As a side note, my hubby and I were walking around a sporting goods store last Sat. and I just happened to look down and somehow I had scratched my leg on something. Of course, the blood was oozing down my leg. I didn't have a kleenex so had to get a paper towel from a clerk to wipe my leg. Long story short...when I got to the car, I applied pressure, and everything was fine. With the "razor" kind of thinking, maybe I should stay in bed and not go anywhere I might get scratched!:D LINDA

I agree.. started out with the "no razor blade because I might bleed" and soon got over that! I've been thru 2 women electric shavers and both don't do beans for me.. so I use a blade for underarms and Veet for legs.. sometimes I wax..

If just once, we could get the name of these "tellers" of warfarin myths.
Invite them on here to lecture us and LET ME AT THEM!

Of course for the sensitive type here that tend to go atomic when they read
my post to these ignorant no-nothing, I'll let them know ahead of time so they can block my post so they won't soil themselves.:D

Gillette..for Women..DAISY..moisture smooth strip.I have dry skin..so make sure I lather up good. No cuts..........Now, Pets, beware..If I leave my dog and come into house with shorts on..Always expect a nip on legs from his jumping on me. sharp nails.......Ross, remember 4 years ago when we both had new kittens.. They would sneak and climb our legs when we were on computer..:D Still laughing about that time.......My finger doesn't even bleed when I prick for my INR.. Just 2 drops and it is gone.:) Bonnie

I have always used electric shavers, nothing to do with my warfarin. OK, they are petty useless but I never fancied the sharp type. What I noticed the other day was that the top of my legs bled when I shaved! I have a lovely shaver rash and look as if I have been scratched - just as well that I don't want to get in a swimsuit as it looks horrid. I was having my INR checked that day and was relieved to find it bang on target, 3.6 (3.0-4.0).

What difference does it make if you use an electric or not? I can cut myself with an electric!!!!!!!!
I have a women's Remington. When it goes, I'll replace it with a men's version. I also use disposables. Used one tonight (I'm spending the night with my parents in Dallas Texas). Sliced my left ankle (in the shower, blind as a bat w/out my glasses!). Luckily I had packed bandages in my suitcase.
BTW, speaking of bandages, I got a box of Nexcare bandages at Costco recently. I like the Nexcare bandages better than the Band-Aid brand. This particular box has 5 or 6 pouches with an assortment of sizes -- great for packing a pouch in a suitcase, which I fortunately did.
I have packed these pouches in my briefcase (along with a stash of amoxicillin), each overnight bag and my bag of cat grooming supplies I take to cat shows.

Has anyone ever heard of anyone who lost more than a quart of blood from getting cut while shaving? A quart is about the minimum to get a transfusion. Anything less than that is considered minor.

Throw a quart of milk on the kitchen floor (or a quart of oil oon the garage floor) while you are cleaning it up, you will realize how "helpful" this piece of advice was.
