Hello everybody! Apologies for being so quiet recently - Jim and I have been house-hunting, I've got a new job, been planning holidays etc so haven't had much time to check in I'm afraid. Have been "lurking" a bit lately though and seeing how everybody's doing.

Now, what do we need luck for? We have had an offer accepted on a house!! YAY!! 2 bedrooms, enough parking for the menagerie of cars we've got between us, and a lovely big (by local standards) garden with apple and damson trees at the bottom.

Saw the mortgage advisor today who's also sorting out life insurance - that's where things get interesting! Jim answered yes to about a third of the questions - ever had chest pains, on any meds, ever had high BP, had more than 10 days off work in the last 3 years...

So, we now need to keep our fingers crossed that the insurance company gets the report from Jim's doctor and decides that maybe the premium goes up a bit, and possibly there'll be some exclusions to the cover, but that we can have the cover!!

I know this is an issue that affects a lot of people, and as first-time buyers we're not in the position of having already had insurance prior to discovering about Jim's condition, so I'll keep you all posted as we find out the verdict.

Will also add a photo of our lovely house once we've exchanged contracts and got the keys!! (Oh, if you'd like to wish/pray/hope for that to go smoothly too that would be most appreciated ;) ).

Anyway, think that's all for now. We're hoping to get a rescue kitten too (think it's kinder on Tiger for him to stay at Jim's parents' house where he loves the garden) so that'll be 3 re-homed souls!

Hope everyone's OK, and surviving the heat (if you have air-con please don't tell me - my new job sadly comes with the perk of fans and open windows as the only cooling measure  ).

Gemma & Jim.

Gemma, I'm so excited for you and Jim and will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this process. I assume in the UK that you have to have life insurance to buy a home? I know buying a home is a big step as our three children just went through it (buying their first homes) starting 2 and a half years ago with our daughter. Our sons bought their homes in the last three months. Anyway, keep us posted and send us pictures when everything is finalized!:) LINDA

Hi Linda, thanks for the well-wishes:)

You don't actually have to have life insurance with our type of mortgage (repayment - ie we pay off the loan and the insurance together over 25 years) I don't think, but it's so that if either of us dies the other one isn't left with a huge mortgage to deal with. I suppose the alternative would be a good savings plan, at least that way we get something out of it if we're both still alive!!

Hi Gemma

I will be hoping that all goes well for you both with the house, our youngest and his new wife are trying to buy their first home so I know what you are going through, we are afraid to tell anyone as we would be devastated if it went pear shaped, ( and that is without medical issues )

My mum used to say " If its meant to be it will " so here's hoping for you and Jim, and my Robert and Gail

Hugs

Jan

Sending good thoughts and wishes your way that you get your home AND the insurance.
Good luck.

I wish you much luck in getting your new home. Can't wait to see the photos!

Nice to hear from you, Gemma and wishing you both the best of luck with the new house. Exciting times and we will look forward to the pictures.
